standard mx5 seats dont fit too well im afraid. I managed to bend the runners flat at the ends and drill and bolt them through the cross members. i found that if you slide one of the runners 2 clicks forward of the other it puts the seats at a very slight angle (with the back in towards the center line) and helps them fit. its enough to help, but not noticeable when seated/driving. i havent removed the plasic covers either as it didnt seem to make much of a difference! luckily im 6"2 so the seats in the "standard" position are just about spot on for me.

Look Lads, the original seats are fine for the IVA, but Ive got a super pair of green grp seats I bought at Stoneleigh and will be putting them in after getting my ticket. I think if we are going to build such a super looking car we really need embellishments like seats ect to make it stand out from the crowd. I have kept all my receipts so it will be interesting to see what the actual cost is. ( I have not sold a nut and bolt off the donor yet) I just think the ease of build and the amazing look of the car is the important facet of this car Regards Ted

Hi Alex,
Any news on your follow-up IVA? Be good to get an update if there's anything to report?
Cheers,

Due to me being a fat headed idiot and not allowing enough time, I had to delay the retest until this morning. I'd had major issues trying to fit an immobiliser as the steering lock wasnt working. I failed to fit one, but then using the tried and tested 'whack it with a hammer' method the steering look suddenly decided to work again, so problem avoided! Went in for its retest this morning at 8am. arrived at 7.50 soaked through! The retest was a bit of a farce really. It was the same chap who'd done the original test, who was a really nice bloke and let me fiddle things as we went. He printed off the list of fails and then promptly asked me to walk through them with him. This was great as he couldnt remember what he'd failed it on so I avoided any issues I was unsure of. The steering lock decided to bugger up again, and he happily watched me whack it with a hammer till it worked again, and ticked it off the list! We came to the 'exterior projections' (sharp edges bit) which werent individually listed, and I simply showed him a few bits I'd put edge trim on and he was happy. All in all about 10 minutes. So the result.... drumm roll please \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ TaDaaaa. Pass. now off to see the dvla to get it registered! Alex

Are you using a crash helmet Alex?
My thought was that I would go without when plodding around town, but get a nice bright kwak green one for the open road.
Very impressed with your insurance quote by the way - I work in BS4 and know how close we are to some of the less desireable areas of town, so that was a cracking price. Hope mine comes down somewhere near that once I'm ready to get her on the road...

@ sspogman ive taken her up to 70 odd and its mighty painfull any higher than 60. goggles/glasses/shades are a must for anything over 20mph, so pretty much all the time. ive not taken it anywhere that requires a long bursts at dual carridgeway speeds, as ive been carefully route planning to avoid such roads till the confidence grows and the helmet is purchased! one word of advice when choosing eyewear, sunglasses dont tend to work as the wind hits your face, and you nose directs it around the glasses and into your eyes! i have a pair with a solid built up nose piece that work well, and also oakley wraparound glasses work too. if your working in bs4 then you must pop over on the way home one evening and we'll have a spin. Ive PM'd my details.

Lads if you`ve ever experienced a cracked or shattered windscreen, think what that stone or debris could do to your cranium at 50+mph, death springs to mind or certainly a long spell eating via a straw, be careful we only have one life. Wear a crash helmet when doing any serious driving. You can always put a full size cardboard cut out of your self in the passenger seat if you want admirers to know who is the Stig driving that georgeous EXOCET

Alex, very impressed with your build We're going to be starting one in the next couple of months when I stop going to trackdays with the MX5 We're up in Gloucester but I work in the centre of Bristol, so may be tapping you up for ideas... just out of interest, I didn't buy an engine crane from you off ebay a couple of months ago did I? It's just that workshop looks very familiar, especially that brown Cortina and the white Astra...
