Hi all I am way down the south of the UK in the Isle of Wight - new and fantastic roads but old and expensive ferries. Having read a lot of Exocet build threads and being on a (very) tight budget I decided that I would like the best donor I can afford- for reasons of rust and resale. A lot of patience later I finally picked up a high mileage/slightly dented Arizona 02 Mk2.5 1.8 - Double the original budget but with a hard top, leather seats, etc that should offset the cost. I noticed that things like Mk2.5 lights go for 2-3x the price of Mk2 ones. Also has as standard the Torsen LSD, Bilstein shocks and bigger brakes. I expect it will be a while before I can afford the kit but that is one of the great things about the Exocet - donor first, kit later. Unfortunately I am still clearing out the garage so I might have to drive it for a month. I am pretty adept electrically and mechanically and have worked on a few bits of exotic machinery - but never cars so I will be after the occasional bit of help. So on with the build!

As far as I know, Arizonas didn't have Bilsteins as standard, I know mine didn't. Leather seats are sought after and go for about £250 to £300. I want a set for my Mk1 but not got the spare cash at the minute.

Thanks for the welcome!
Hmm.. Bilsteins were listed on the sales spec, I assumed they were standard on the special edition. Guess I'll know soon enough.
Yep the full leather interior was the convincer to spend the extra cash, it is in fantastic condition to. I see even the heated seat switches go for £20, so I have high hopes of breaking even on the donor.

Welcome.. Military Road on the IOW is a nice road with great views. You might want to look at Tim and Josephs build diary as they used a 2.5 as well. There is a slight issue with the bonnet clearance on the engine but only a minor one, Take a look at their build. mevowners.proboards.com/thread/832/tim-josephs-exocet

Thanks Trident - I have exactly that thread open right now! Have been wading through it for a day or so, they did really well on selling stuff and i am only half way through the thread.
Yep, I live 5 mins from the military road. One of my thoughts was that the island would make a great owners get together, there is already a gathering of TVR owners, a VW festival and a few bike/scooter rallies.

So some "minor" issues with water ingress into the garage (it's part buried), which entailed a long chain of jobs involving lots of concrete and a new roof on the space above. Should be ready by the end of the week...
Two questions if I may -
-I remember that I should de-pressurise the fuel system before terminating the engine - run it and isolate the fuel pump until it dies. Also that I need to loosen the hub nuts (29mm socket anyone ??) whilst I still have brakes - Anything else that is best to do before the strip starts in earnest ?
- Getting a bit ahead here, but I am pretty set on a (DIY style) supercharger post IVA, is there anything I should do during the strip/build in prep for that?

Finally got the garage water tight enough to start the strip down, not much exciting just some body work off. Spent more time building the workshop than stripping the car. Unhappy with masking tape for labels so bought some waterproof, tear proof, network cable labels - much better but not perfect ! Cracked off the wheel nuts and will do the axle nuts when I get her on stands. I have more storage above the garage so anything not selling immediately will go there. Not really MX5 parts season yet but a few bits have gone locally. Most importantly I already have a deal for the tub.
