I have to modify the chassis a bit to get it road legal up here. I'll have to put bumpers on it and I want to try a different windshield layout than they sell. So I'm going to fully assemble it, tear it down get everything painted / powder coated and prettied up then get it back together.
I'm pretty sure it'll clear the tires but I should probably throw them on and check.

Hi Trenon, my first post here and it was your build thread that got me sign up here since I'm from Canada too (Vancouver, BC). On the fence of going ahead with an Exocet build but it probably wouldn't fit into my schedule until next winter. Meanwhile I'm just doing a lot of reading and going to follow your build for sure. Could you tell me more about the bumper requirement? Thanks. Brian

We don't really have a DMV like the US, unfortunately its spread out over a few different departments. I only briefly looked into BC registration but it seems simpler than that in Alberta as BC has a "fair weather use" vehicle clause that lets you skip things like windshield wipers and defrost that are required in alberta.
In alberta the first step is to get a VIN assigned by Alberta Transportation. It costs ~460$ and all they care about is where you got the engine, transmission, chassis, and dash from. You fill out the form after you have those items installed and they rivet a VIN to the vehicle. It does not have to be complete. Although you apply though alberta transportation its actually done by the local police anti theft group. Basically they want to make sure nothing big is stolen.
Next is the inspection. I have conflicting information on this so far. Alberta transporation tells me I need to get a salvage inspection done which is long and very thurough. The VIN assignmnet guys tell me I just need an out of province which is basic safety. Once those two steps are done it's off to the registry with your insurance and its road legal.
BC has government insurance so the process will be a bit different. Here calling it a "kit car" is a death sentence. The proper term is a Lotus super 7 replica.
As for all the actual requirements contact BC transportation and see if they will send you a list. It's long.

So the 1.9L engine I got had the rear coolant feed line welded closed. Drilling out the weld was not going well as the tubing is softer than the weld so I cut it back until it was not blocked. Now I can't get a hose to stay on it secure enough since there is no barb. Anyone know if this barb is removable? If so how?

Can you get a tubing flare tool on it.. Or a tapered shaft punch that will flare the end with a hammer..

Both of those would make a sharp edge on the outside of the taper. I'm hoping it's just pressed in and is removable, if not I may thread the outside of the tubing and jb weld on a Barb

I just saw your post at top of this page that you need to run bumpers in Canada. At the moment, I am finding myself in the same spot in Ohio USA. Also, I need a windshield tall enough that I have to look thru (not over) it, and wipers. Working on windshield first as that one I definitely must do. Will post pics of progress if you're interested.

That is a pretty small tube, the bead roller wouldn't fit in it. I have a spare engine that has a barb in good condition which is why I'm asking about removing them.

Yeah I need them as well. I'm going to make the bumpers removable. The front will come through the front hood opening and from underneath, the rear will have some mounts welded on under the gas tank area. The rear will bolt in the front will probably be on pins so it's removable without tools.
I have a split windshield plan in my head that I hope to do. I don't like the look of any of the large single flat windshields which is why I didn't get the race chassis. The only thing in my way is the location of the gauge cluster. I'm going to have to use aftermarket gauges or figure out how to move it towards the driver a bit.
Haven't figure out the wipers yet. I may try and go through the inspection and see if they notice.

Their small tool does 1/4" dia. Is it smaller than that? Here are their small,medium, and large tool details. www.tubebeadingtool.com/tool_options.htmIf that wouldn't work you could try cutting off a good tube with the nipple/beaded end and welding/brazing it on to the larger portion but I think you risk leak and introduce a possible failure point if it is heated and hardened.

The ID of that tube is well under 1/4" it's small. Brazing wouldn't be great as there is minimal area for the braze to hold, I'd have to weld it which id rather not do. Hence why I'm asking about removing it and replacing it.
If no one knows how to remove it I'll just thread the outside of it and JB weld on a new fitting.

Took a break for a bit. I was sick for a month there.
Getting back into the build. Tackling the electrical piece by piece and now more importantly the intercooler to throttle body piping.
I have never built my own intercooler piping before, are there any good places to source fittings / pipe from that are cheap? The space is really tight in there for what I need to run with the BEGI header. I think it moves the TB closer to the rad which is causing some issues. I'm probably going to end up welding up some odd miter to make it fit as I don't think I can get tight enough radius bends.

A number of us have had good luck with the FM flexible piping. I can't recall who, but someone is doing an over rad set up but fighting hood clearance issues.
I saw a set of the FM piping on club roadster or miataturbo recently at quite a discount. I have details of how I cut and flipped a few pieces to get it to fit without cutting the bodywork.
