I have a press but it's exceedingly difficult due to the shape of the control arms to use it. I ended up using a vise for half and a torch for half.

I just used my 12 ton Harbor freight press to do all the rear suspension bushings. It was easy and took all of 30 min. The arms don't fit in the press in the traditional way, so I had to improvise and go through the other side to press them out. I'm not sure if I going to get to the front set today, depends if I want to be productive on this beautiful Sunday.

I got a hydraulic gear puller from Harbor Freight after burning out a few of them. It worked, but took everything the puller had to get them!

Just ordered the sport kit tonight from Flyin Miata. Kinda scary hearing the grand total of over $8k, but I know it will be worth it.

Pulled the tranny off today just to get a head start on the clutch replacement. It looks to me that the previous owner really liked to ride the clutch, plenty of hot spots. I will be replacing it with a lightweight flywheel, and I'm not quite sure what clutch to get. I plan to turbo the car in the future, but I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg on the FM happy meal. Does anybody have another less expensive option, or is the happy meal the best to go with? I also found a nice leak at the rear main seal, so that's on the list to get fixed. While I'm doing that I might as well redo the oil pan, too.

Look into ACT or Exedy for clutches and flywheels.

If the pan is not leaking leave it alone..It is a PIA to remove it is glued/sealed to block with a oil pan baffle between them.. If you have to remove it, remove all bolts and there is a spot on both side toward the rear were you put in a large screwdriver and pry/twist it apart..

I needed a break from it since its almost 100 degrees outside, I might finish it up later.

I finished the rear main seal, and I started cleaning up the pan and windage tray. There are a ton of surfaces to clean just for an oil pan seal. I'm also in the process of cleaning the engine, does anybody know a VERY strong engine degreaser? I have tons of oil build up, and its a huge pain scrubbing it off.

I tried to cheat today. I wanted to use my 1/2" torque wrench (since its the only torque wrench I own) that's rated down to 10 ft/lbs. My thought was, "If the wrench it rated at 10 ft/lbs, it should have no problem going down to 8 ft/lbs... whats 2 ft/lbs anyway". Well, my wrench does NOT go down to 8 ft/lbs based off the broken test bolt I just snapped off in the block. Lucky for me I had a trusty set of locking pliers and it came right out. But now I need to source a very odd bolt size to replace the broken one. I also get to buy a new tool, a 1/4 torque wrench for all the tiny jobs. I really wanted to button up the block today, but that will have to wait till later this week.
