I'm not putting a stupid expletive deleted ash tray in this car. This isn't 1955 or england.

With that hole in tunnel make a tray for it to hold cell or switch panel.. Could be the first Exocet with an ash tray? That's just a speed hole! Cuts down on weight...

In all seriousness, though, this build looks tip top. I'm planning a similar build, hopefully with an LS2/T56 pullout, and your comments on subframe/headers and transmission mount have been especially helpful. Please keep up the posts as you progress!

Thank you. It seems like I've gotten nothing accomplished so far some days when I work on it. Won't be much longer I don't expect. One of the big frustrations is doing new things from scratch - everything takes longer when you don't have a reference point or someone whose done it before to really go off of. I've tried to document all the little things I can.

Thank you. It seems like I've gotten nothing accomplished so far some days when I work on it. That happens, and there have been days when I left the garage with more to do than when I started, finding problems that weren't obvious until you get there, and having to re-do stuff to get it right. Looks like we'll be re-mounting the radiator this weekend to fit under the bodywork. Great build thread - I've been enjoying it - and you really are moving the project along quickly. Looking forward to the day you fire it up. Jim PS: I wasn't serious about the ash tray. Maybe a cup holder?

The build is coming along very nicely, I am looking forward to seeing how your radiator mounts up.

Quick note, don't buy 17" kirkeys, get 16" or smaller.
I'll make them work but.... 16" would be so much easier. More to follow (frankenstein seat mounts)

No way 18s will fit. The base is just too wide. You have fourteen inches of mount width maximum at the chassis. The 17s are sixteen inches across mounting area with the side mounts flipped inward, which means the seat will have to be raised and lincoln logged to mount to the 14" area. I'll take a pic to show what I mean. The 17s are also very tight on the sides vs the cage. I don't think 18s will fit. I'm 6'2 250 and the 17s are a little loose on me. Unless you're a huge fat guy, just go 17 (or smaller)

Got some overpriced tube and bar stock from the hardware store, going to get to work building this abortion of a mount. Will bolt it together and have it welded at a later date for insurance. Come hell or high water I will have both of these stupid seats in today.

Yeah I have sat in the 17's and I fit just fine. Just was going to go 18 to make it as comfortable as a aluminum race seat can be.

Taking a short break, need to run to parts store for some more M8 nuts and 3/16 bar stock. Check out that awesome seat stand... LOL Two 3/16" flat steel bar stocks to square the base off of the kirkey side mounts Rough fit of how the sliders will mount, sitting on 13" wide 1" tube stock for elevation and clearance. (Slider mount holes are 12" center to center) The sliders will bolt to two more pieces of flat stock oriented in the same direction as the flat stock that is bolted to the seat, which will bolt to two final pieces of flat stock that is bolted thru the chassis. This lets me get the seat high enough to actually slide it forward and aft, while maintaining a sturdy lower mount. (Seat will have an adjustable backbrace to the cage) Drilling 3/16" steel sucks, it's killing my $$$$ wagner bits. I wish I had a press.

So to mitigate my wagner bits sucking on steel, I bought a nice $11 cobalt bit from ace, and finished the seat bracket When I went to get the flat rails onto the chassis, the mf grabbed and shattered. Just my luck - serves me right for not using the clutch on my drill though... would have prevented this nonsense. Anyway, since I don't feel like going back to the hardware store this early, I moved on to the shocks. These didnt take long at all to put together and bolt up. Leaving them hanging in space for now, since the shock spacers are supposed to be here monday. Still need to get on the radiator... maybe I will today. Going to hang it external the tubes, like exomotive did on their LS3 car.

Filled the diff with fluid and tightened up DS bolts, car is road worthy if it started, lol. Added cutoff switch and measured/ordered cable for the starter and alternator. The cutoff is a piece a lot of folks don't do, but if you track a car, you really should have one. The standard is in the rear sheet metal of the car but there is no practical place on an exo to put one, so I put it here, very easy to reach in and shut off power. I'm actually going to use the seatbelt hole as ground from the battery, since its a substantial piece of metal. Going to remove all the powdercoat from both sides and stick a good sized stud through it.
