In the USA, inspections are up to the individual states, some are strict, some are not. Kansas is in the middle. I had a very lax inspector, and he was generally impressed with the quality of the car. He was mostly interested in making sure it has no stolen components, more then an actual safety inspection. The tax was 7,5% of the listed value for the kit/components, which was heavily skewed in my favor. In Kansas you have to pay it on a kit car just like a new car purchase, like a sales tax, when you register for the first time.

Made up a build sheet for the insurance folks - yikes! Around 33k, and that's not counting any of the real small stuff. Cheap little things add up! Probably closer to 35k in reality.

Nope, it's why I ended up with the V8. I did the side by side costs of an FMII vs an LS1/mounts. The Ls1/trans was actually cheaper, except that I had to buy the rearend kit to go with it which put it about $2k-2500 more then a FMII. I can email you the list I made up if you'd like

Once when you bought the parts and once again. This assumes that you paid sales tax on the car parts when you first bought them.

You don't have to pay twice, I don't think I paid tax on anything other then the few things I ordered in state.

Nonstopmix@gmail.com Going with everything FM (brakes, radiator, suspension..) really drove up the price too.

Brakes are still on my list, one of the few things I didn't bother to upgrade since it's a luxury item. When I get to shaving weight, I'm planning to do all the brakes and throw in a real race clutch and Al flywheel which should shave 70 pounds or so between everything.

dietcoke ... please also email your list to me at jeinberger@wi.rr.com
Running a stock 1.6L now, but planning on changing that once I get past the registration issue and get some baseline miles on this current setup. Most interested in your type of powertrain vs. turbo 1.8L, if for no other reason than the bada** soundtrack a V8 makes !!
Thanks.

Ordered some one and a half inch longer front springs of a higher rate (7"/550 lb) to replace the vmaxx fronts and helpers. I feel its slightly undersprung, and I don't like the helpers at all. This should fix both issues. Also got the accusump ordered.

Finished the end with with 1/16" macrolon, really dig the look. It's an opaque polycarbonate. I like it so much that I'm going to replace the wiring tray cover with the same material.

Got the oil pickup O-ring replaced, I was able to get the pan down low enough without lowering the Kmember, which was nice. You can see how much thicker the GM/Felpro ring is on the right then the melling ring. I had to change it out because I was having some strange oil pressure characteristics, I think some air was leaking past the melling ring.
