Thanks for the info. I plan on doing a bare race chassis and checked out the cars at the recent Kit car show in Carlisle. I also am going to visit Exomotive on a business trip with my wife in Jan so it seems it would make more sense for me to just have it shipped. That is a long drive in a rental box-van. A second driver would sure help but that would add to the cost. Good info. I bet you are excited to get started with the build now that the chassis and your donor are so close together. Congrats

These control arms are proving difficult. I had to cut a few of the bolts with the sawzall.
I am working on removing the old rubber bushings. Should I be concerned with using a propane torch on the bushing to burn it out? It took quite a bit to get them free, I don't like the idea of holding flame so close to the control arm.

Mine came out with pressure applied in my bench vice using appropriate spacers, with just a bit of heat once pressure was there to break the bond. If you have any left, you might give that method a try.

If you have any left, you might give that method a try. I wish that would work. Mine are really stuck. I have an arbor press, no luck. I also used some gear pullers - with heat that worked, but I ended up bending the tool! I found I can fit a hack saw blade through some of them. I am going to try cutting relief cuts and then push them out.

One last thing I need to vent: Planet Miata sucks. Really.
I ordered a shifter rebuild kit and motor mounts 3 weeks ago. I got a confirmation email of the purchase immediately, but never a shipping notice or tracking number. I email them, no response. A few days go by, I call them, the guy acts annoyed and "says he will find out what happened to my order" and call me back that day. I never get a call. The next week I call again, the guy acts extra annoyed with me asking what is going on. He tells me it shipped already and gives me a tracking number that doesn't work, but insists it is on its way.
The next day the tracking number finally works and shows it was shipped after my most recent phone call (not before, as he had said). I get the package today and the motor mounts are not there! What the hell!
I expect a fight on the phone with them on Monday based on my previous two calls.

I have had the same experience with them. Bought most of my rebuild items from Finish Line for OEM items or a Rock Auto for aftermarket items this time. I got a couple of odds and ends from Miata Mike, like new injector harness connectors.

I use Mazda Motorsports for OEM parts. I'm sure this has been mentioned on this board, but just in case there's a newcomer or two, it's Mazda's support program for motorsports and the requirements are pretty minimal. Autocross, time trial, or race a Mazda twice and send them an application including a link to the results. I hear that HPDE is acceptable too. Parts manuals are online. Discounts are pretty significant compared to dealer pricing.

I hope I can figure out how this all goes back together.

Two, the shift rebuild Planet buys from Mazda directly and resells it to you. Find a local Mazda dealer it should be in stock item. I didn't have any luck with planet miata. I hope this helps. both of these dealers are very supportive and easy to deal with. treasurecoastmiata.com/www.partsgroup.com/

Who has successfully mocked up an exhaust in the new narrow exocet trans tunnel? I am concerned about this: mevowners.proboards.com/post/63207Does the stock 1.6 header clear? I contacted enthuzacar, and they can make me a header-back system that should fit, but I am concerned about the header itself - which they don't have experience with. I suppose I could cut the flange off and clamp some flex pipe to make it work if it interfered? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Stock 1.6 header and downpipe clear perfectly fine with new tunnel design.
How much did they quote you for a downpipe back system? I have to pick a direction on that soon.

I appreciate the clarification. Do you know if any of the other headers work like racing beat? I would assume most of those follow the same path as the stock header, but I want to make sure before I spend the cash. $800 for the dual tip exhaust with metal core catalytic converter.

Oooo at $800, that is pricey. Looking at clearances, I have doubts that a catalyst will fit without bumping into the tunnel, drivetrain, etc. The new tunnel is pretty narrow in that area.
Does that $800 quoted system pick up after the stock downpipe ends, or go all the way up to the header outlet itself? I'm really in the market for a system that picks up after the downpipe ends, if that is available at a reasonable cost. If that is an $800 system, I think I'll lean towards finding a local shop that can fab up an alternative.
I have no idea no other headers as I was going down the road of using my stock manifold with my 1.6, as later plans likely include a different powertrain one way (1.8) or the other (LS). But, that is quite a ways down the road for me!
