I wouldn't want to trust aluminium for the steering column UJ. It might well be safe but I'd make sure that is over engineered if anything. It's a safety area which I wouldn't risk for the sake of a few gramms of weight.

I can understand.
However let me say one thing: Have you ever seen the ball joint for m3 e30 ? Or any bmw e30 ? Are also aluminum. And much watermarks. Plus I did check the material and is almost a simple aluminum while. I think to use 7075

the easiest way for me to lighten my build would be for me to go on a diet 35-40 kg possible !

It depends on which parts of it.The most I do. For the steering rod I have titanium grade 5 made . With the hexagonal cone and everything should be very safe.  |
