Thanks for the reply. Yes if you could find a pic that would be great. The mk2 tank seems to be a more awkward shape than the mk1!

Here you go mikeeyboy - I've altered it a bit since this pic - had to cut out a square from its rear lhs to allow me to get a hand in to do fuel filler hose clip. The donor exhaust wasn't underneath the rear lhs and the MEV silencer I've just bought is a dummy pipe on the lhs, so I hope this cutout will be ok in IVA else it'll need a hatch of some sort. Makes me wonder if a cleverer design would have been removable without removing the tank and tank cover - perhaps from underneath even. Bear in mind this hasn't been thru IVA yet. In the threads I was reading when I started out (in 2014!) I'm sure there were some very rudimentary 'trays' which were basically very thin ally beaten in to the shape of the subframe's lumps.

Thanks for posting that. It's a solar shape to what I had been contemplating.
I was worried a sheet of ally that fills the whole underneath of the tank maybe very rattly whilst driving.
I am planning on calling and picking some sheet up this week.
Cheers

I didn't have one on my Replicar for IVA and it wasn't a problem.

As I recall from reading earlier threads when I was starting out in 2014; an early Exo build failed IVA on the need to have this type of feature even tho' other IVAs at other testers hadn't raised it as an issue.
I think the challenge must have been based on "03A Fuel Tanks" wording "[the fuel tank] shall also be so fitted as to ... minimise the risk of fire in the event of any leakage of fuel." and "8. Fuel Tanks must not be positioned near a heat source ... so that a leak could cause a fire hazard.".
After that fail some others adopted fitting something to err on the side of caution.
I can't remember which build it was that kicked this off, but it crops up for discussion like this every couple of years.

I was as above with what Miket said, don't want to risk a fail by not having one. Out of interest what IVA centre did people who pass without use?

Got my new MEV S/S rear silencer installed... I was enjoying the burble whilst the exhaust paste warmed and cured when Exo decided to spring a coolant leak on the drive. I think this may have been close to the source of the leak!... ... so new top hose and thermostat - tho' it seemed a shame to bin this beauty ... Anyways - new thermostat and hose installed, coolant topped up and engine run - all seems ok apart from the overflowing coolant was foaming a bit. I can only assume the jug I used still had a little screen wash residue in it. The coolant'll all get replaced once the current coolant has done some more cleaning out. Main learning point to pass on from installing the MEV S/S Silencer was to leave as much of the exhaust section that it fits on to as possible. The straight bit of pipe the silencer fits on to is slightly angled, so where you cut the pipe affects how central the silencer ends up. Fit exhaust first and then make hangers to suit. The exhaust cut is made next to a bend in the pipe so the pipe's cross-section is slightly distorted by the bending process. Used a 50mm exhaust U clamp to return the cut part of the exhaust to nearer circular. 52mm clamp and exhaust paste use to fit the silencer.

When you fit the new thermostat did you position the jiggle pin to the top of the thermostat not to the side or bottom like in your beauty pic.. Does the exhaust blow out both sides of muffler..

... thanks for checking ... I read a bit of prep before swapping the thermostat and read that the jiggle pin position was important so I replaced it the same position as I'd found the original one. Due to the ambiguities of the English language I'm not sure from your comments whether I've got it in the right position or not. Does 'top' mean highest point or something else? ... the housing surface looks pretty horizontal to the eye - do I need to get a spirit level to it?
The muffler blows to the R, L is dummy.

Highest point if there is one.. No need for a split level.. While you were in there did you check to see if the small tubes off the housing were clear to flow on both ends..

No I failed to do that - too focused on the job in hand as it was my first time, but now I know for next time - thanks.

I'm spending some time redoing all the old images in this thread that got binned by Dropbox's change a while back - so apologies for leaping to the top of the Board every few minutes with nothing new to report. If you weren't already; then please ignore my thread for a while!
