So thankfully all my homemade rear light connector blocks had the right spades in the right places and I now have a veritable Christmas tree on the rear with all lights working from the right switches Only hitch was the reversing light not working, but it turned out to be just a corroded central connector in the bulb holder so easily sorted.

Out of hibernation and back in the game - jumper on Grnd & F/P - the hum of a motor and hiss of fuel ejecting air (I presume) followed by combustion (the good kind) and a trip out on to the drive. So all set to carry on building.
Even when the engine was warm, when I came off the throttle the revs died right back such that I thought it was going to stall, but then it recovered itself at the last minute. Not sure what that's about - did 1990 ECU's have a learning phase!?
