Hello all, our journey has begun :-) the plan is for myself and my brother to build an Exocet. We got our first donor car today, it's a 1998 1.8 classic in good condition with lots of history, now for the fun part of taking it all apart. 1st question I have is what's best to do with the logbook? Do I just send off as normal so it's all in my name? Or is there anything I need to be aware of for when I come to scrap the body and apply for the new logbook on completion? cant wait to get started. thanks Don

Don, don't scrap any of that all important stuff! send off the logbook as normal, keep the V5 when it comes back and when you got to get rid of the body cut both VIN plates out of it. This will stop you having a Q plate and you will be able to keep the reg number.
Enjoy your build mate

Cheers Hammy, I will take a lot of pics and I'm sure I will have many questions along the way. Will update you all once I get started.

Don,
The Exocet build guide is a useful reference document for things like VIN plate removal etc.
Also don't forget to SORN the Mazda during your build.
Enjoy.

One thing that added a lot of time to my build was I didn't realize until the end of my build was the engine number didn't match the v5. Might be worth checking early on incase you need the v5 changed
Another thing that stumped me for a while was the stuck rear hub nuts, my advice would be to loosen them while the car is still assembled and holding the hub secure.
Where abouts are you located?

Thanks Stubbers I will check the numbers when I get home, I did read in one of the build diary's that I should loosen the hub nuts before taking it apart. thanks for the heads up.
Im located in Andover in Hampshire.

Just cut the the one out of the bulk head and remove the vin plate put them in an envelope and keep them safe... You will have a new chassis number with the Exocet chassis and its been said before but take plenty of photos

While you're doing the rear hubnuts, do the front ones at the same time. Easier to hold the car on the brake rather than a vice.

I'm starting to think I'm not cut out the kit car build that I have ahead of me. I just spent 5 minutes in the petrol station trying to work out how to open the fuel cap

I had the same problem… If you want to come down and have a chat about the build and see mine in the flesh send me your number via personal message.

Cheers Trident, I will take you up on that offer soon. I'm off to the Autosport show at the NEC this weekend to meet Stuart and hopefully see an Exocet that is complete. Will have a look round a might even place the order for my kit. Not even started on the Mazda yet as I've been busy clearing the space for my build. Just need to build a workbench and move all my tools in and that will be me ready to start. :-)
