Good news and bad news. Good news: The motor is in pristine condition. No sludge or signs of wear. It looks pretty darn good for an ebay motor. I'll take more pictures of the bottom side of the block tonight. The bad news: Most/all of the gaskets need replacing. It was weeping oil from the front and rear main seal, as well as what appeared to be the front part of the oil pan gasket. All seals I was prepared for, the oil pan gasket I was not. I am in the process of cleaning the oil pan adhesive off the motor and the oil pan and insert. I guess this will make taping the oil drain rather easy! Special shout out to Rauf (local Exocet owner) for lending a hand.

Always better to pull the pan to drill and tap. I would have done it but at the time I wasn't planning on going turbo. Regretting it now....
Glad you got a good motor!!!

Great to see that you have local help from a fellow Exocet builder.

Well humpty dumpty is back together again. I just hope that everything is correct and that she fires up. Replaced/added the following: timing belt, water pump, cam seals, new pulleys/tensioner, front and rear main seals, oil pan gaskets, pickup gasket, valve cover gasket, plugs, new oil drain tap for turbo, lightweight header, coolant reroute, EGR cap, and new isolated radiator mounts (from Exomotive), The header is to replace the boat anchor cast iron OEM one, and I'll sell it later after I turbo. One thing that was different on the JDM engine was that it wasn't a returnless fuel system... So I swapped out the fuel rail from my old motor. Here are a few pictures of the process:
To do's: Add oil to engine/tranny Install back into car Head to church to say a prayer and light a candle Start car and hope everything works. . .

So almost everything is done, minus mounting the radiator. Because I no longer have an EGR system (everything is capped), Can get rid of the boost sensor and vacuum solenoid? I assume the answer is yes, but hoping that someone can confirm. These two: boost sensor: and solenoid:

I think the purge might use the map sensor. The solenoid can go.

Purge? As in the carbon canister thingy that I no longer have? Keep in mind that I am running megasquirt.

Car won't start. I have spark to all 4 cyl. Weird thing is, when I pulled the plugs, cyl 1 and 2 were dark. Cyl 3 and 4 looked brand new and white. (This is after many attempts to try and start it). Thoughts?

Leads me to believe that the injectors are not firing. I have power to them, need to test the ground while cranking to see if they are wired correctly. I guess then check for continuity?

Unplug the cam and crank sensors. Crank the engine for 10-15 seconds to build compression. Plug them back in and try again.
