Just clamped it with vice grips. Then hammered on the vice grips.

Thanks, I will try to un-telescope it with the Greg's solution. If not, a used column is a cheap solution as Geoff stated.

Hey Steadfast,
My name is Luke I live up in La Honda, CA but recently moved away from San Jose. I am in the process of looking for a donor car and was wondering if you'd be interested in showing me your exocet or maybe talk a little bit about the registration process etc. Basically can I pick your brain on the process and learn from your build ill buy you lunch? It would be GREATLY appreciated. You can reach me easier by email or phone.

The shaft that slides in the steering rack is collapsible. There's two plastic tabs inside of it which are designed to give way in an accident. They snap back into place with a little bit of effort. I found out I accidentally pushed mine in half an inch when I removed it.... Greg ... the shaft in the steering column (where the steering wheel attaches to), or something in the steering rack (which many of us choose to de-power)? My simple mind is confused !

He is referring to the steering column intermediate shaft. This thing:

Guess who is learning how to sew this weekend. I'll be making an arm rest pad for the trans tunnel and covers for the transmission cover. Steadfast, guess what me too! Watch those fingers! Best of luck.

Good for you! I also did my upholstery. It is a lot harder than it looks to get those seams right. I also did diamonds on mine. It just looks right.

Thanks to the collective wisdom of Geoff and Greg, I have my steering hooked up. Now on to wiring. Crossing fingers.

Geoff, does your FM front brake kit clear your Holeshots up front without spacers? Seems mine do not.

Funny you mention that. I do not yet have that brake kit, still running the stock calipers. I was just thinking today that I needed to buy them! Perhaps not... Have you contacted FM about this?

When I put my holeshots on the front it seemed like there was a little friction between the caliper and the rim so I put a 3mm spacer on the fronts. Maybe the holeshots are not the best wheel to use with the little big brake kit.
