Never managed to get my rear tyre to come off the rim, even when driving like a nob ! Car tyre has to be miles better than a bike tyre on the rear, just because of the size of contact area on the road

Nope, but I advise a sturdy tire with a soft surface. My toyo is great and I did a maximum speed of around 240 kph, no problem at all. A very skilled tire engineer with years of experience in the racing business advised it to me and he had no problems to mount it on a motorcycle rim. It is only a little harder to mount because motorcycle rims are slightly larger in diameter then the same size car rim. But that is safer because it has a tighter fit, especially with Toyo Proxes.

We'll just had a chat with Paul from Rtr, and he has said the trike will not perform, putting a motorbike tyre on will simply not have the contact to the tarmac, which I'm sure you all knew anyway! Personally I'm gob smacked as to why I was not told any of this before by the Mev dealer here in Oz, to be honest guys I would not of purchased knowing the only option was a bike tyre, it's obvious a bike tyre just won't do the job, and only finding this out 5 months down the line and close to $25,000 already spent you can guess how I feel??? I actually found this out myself phoning the Vehicle of Transport here. What do you guys think, any input would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Will

Aren't there any tires available which are also used for bikes with a side cart?

I've found a tyre for a Harley which has slightly more road contact, but nothing to the tyres you guys have. Regards to swapping Paul once on the road, really don't know, seems silly to have to chance it with something so petty? Cheers, Will

Interesting thread for me this one. Its a voyeuristic look into the way things work in the other affordable trike kit world. I have been so busy making things tick in the Tri Pod world I haven't really had time to look outside and see how others have been doing things.
I'm guessing you could use whatever tyre the importer has on their demo car or are they in a different state? In Australia some rulings vary state by state. In Qld car tyres ain't a problem. In fact no engineer has made me aware of any issues with fitting car tyres in any state. There tends to be strange scary stories passed between tyre fitters though about the possible ramifications of crossing to the dark side and putting a flat section tyre where once a round section was mounted.
I admit I skimmed a little through the thread but it seems you are talking to the authority about whats possible and right and whats not. Your engineer is the person to speak to. He decides to a far greater degree whats 'on' and whats not. If you don't like what you are hearing from him then you should find a more agreeable one. Engineers vary widely in what they charge and whether they are on your side or their own. Find one that likes the idea of a three wheeler and is enthusiastic about getting it on the road rather than an attitude more like "oh one of those things, yeah they're almost impossible to get on the road, blah, blah, blah".
If I can help further let me know, Andrew. Tri Pod Cars

Tire coming off the rim. Is he a complete bell end. Have you seen how much pain Kevin's trike goes through on a track :-). And I don't hang about either. And yes Aus seems to be trapped in the 70's with Cars I have seen so not even an argument for safety I reckon. How do Tripod get away with it? Is it to do with it's motorcycle class? Trike or Tricycle, can you take it to another centre?

Hi Edwin, Yes its a giant of a garage, very lucky really, yep been meaning to post some updates for ages, been keeping up with you guys on the forum and looking at the new ideas. Now been here just over a year, originally from Buckinghamshire, and I can honestly tell you it is sunny nearly everyday ideal for the Trike, there all V8 mad here, hoping that when I get the Trike on the road (being the first in OZ) it will give some of these Aussie boys a taste of the Brit power! Got engine started and actually driven it down the road for a very short distance, not got seats yet or reverse motor, there to come soon and some minor bits and pieces, still in gel coat red but have opted for a custom rap which is quite popular because of the damage the heat does to paint? I like the look of the Mclaren F1 paint job which they can design but that's the last job. One thing I was a bit disappointed about was the power, didn't seem as rapid as I thought it would, there are acouple of reasons that may be the factor, 1. changed rear sprocket to 48 teeth but haven't got round to changing front yet, that will be 15 teeth sprocket, but still has original on which is 16, guessing this may be a factor for lack of low end speed, engine sounds great and runs smooth, new clutch and sparkys etc. The other factor is it still has the original R1 tyre on the back and I'm wondering if this is slightly loosing grip as there is not much contact, cant here wheel spin but guess could be slipping on road? Be interesting what you guys think. Anyway will post some pics this weekend. Cheers, Will

As mentioned in other post there is no consensus about the best sprocket ratio. That is part of the fun.
If I was you: Finish the car and get is road legal. During driving do the final improvement, fine tuning and other optimizations.

Yep that's what I intend doing to be honest, getting on the road is my main concern.
