Hi all, finally after a long time and wife arm bending, l now have my kit! its been a wait but I'm sure it's worth it? Kit was delivered to me from the powder coaters and looks nice in satin black, after been sent wrong frame for engine I've now had to change from carb to a later injected model which to be honest would of loved to of kept my 2000 engine as I did a lot work with and looked great anyway been putting suspension together etc which as l can work out is the later set up that Mev have done with the tr1ke, looks totally different to all your lovely builds. One of my questions was the build manual I've got actually doesn't give you any guide to build the tr1ke at all just a few pics, is this what you guys had or have l been given wrong info??? with what I've received looks like l have to guess? Going to stick to normal gear selection and not paddle shift and maybe change the dash a little for easy removal of bonnet, one thing l think will be tough maybe the wiring, anyone found the injection model harder than expected?? Anyway will hope to ask you guys some questions in the next few months for some of your tech. Many thanks, Will
I never saw a build manual. Once you get started it all seems fairly obvious. You can get a wiring diagram from the internet. there are a lot of wires to extend, and unless you are quite good at electrics you may need some help when you get to that stage.
Thanks Paulh, Actually the little things like the manual info and pics are easy to deliver and would I guess make the build more enjoyable and less guessing! Must say Paul, been following your threads on your build and got to say it's a lovely job done mate, l think one of the nice touches you did were the winglets of the (I'm guessing) Mevabusa kit. How much are they by the way and do you have to fabricate the brackets?? How long Paul did it take you to build? Cheers William
Hi William, the winglets are Mevabusa and they came with mounting brackets. just had to trim the nose cone around the brackets and put some rubber bonnet catches on as the nose cone no longer clips around the front of the chasssis. Can`t remember how much they were, I ordered them on my first visit to RTR, with the rest of the kit. total build time was ten weeks with everything done for msva.
Ten weeks is a good time to build the Tr1ke mate, I guess could of been quicker if not for work and waiting for bits etc. Amazingly I've not been in a Tr1ke yet so don't know what to expect! I've had a couple of AC Cobras with the chevy V8 lumps, that was quick but just didn't handle very well, nice to look at though! I'm waiting for lots of parts at moment, as I'm in OZ. The Mev dealer here, well best not go into that at present it's a nightmare on Elm Street!! You know what I mean, probably find my name disappear of this website, hee hee! although may tell my story I've had soon if the supplier doesn't pull his finger out!! Do they handle well Paul, and are they as quick as you guys who own them say? It would nice to have a passenger ride mate but there is at present no Tr1ke in OZ, Well 'til mine, well one day?
Yes they are as quick as we all say. depending on which engine you use. Mine does around 94mph in first gear with o-60 time of around 3 seconds. If you look at some of the videos from curborough amm weekend you will see that no matter how much I through mine around, it never lifted a front wheel, and so far I have been able to tell when the rear is starting to lose grip and get a nice controlled drift.I`m using a 2007engine, what year is yours from ? I think the injection model is a bit more complicated for the wiring, but in my opinion well worth the extra work. just with a power commander and remap and its up to 183 hp Would happily take you out for a spin in mine if you fancy sitting on a plane for 2 days to get here and back !
Well Paulh, would love a spin in yours, might cost though! It's now 8.30 pm around 20 degrees fixing the wings with the old bottle of Red, its lovely having a beverage doing the build with the radio on, only thing is I notice you're more clumsy, and make more mistakes, drop things, scratch your fresh powder coat, you know what I mean mate. The engine is 2004 R1, should get it next week? Found an Aussie who wants to help me with the wiring, he's a Auto electrician, thank god,I think that's the main part of the build really. What was the hardest of the build then Paul for you, wiringIl guess although didn't your son help you if l remember right??
yeah definately the wiring is the hardest part, even with help. temperture is about the same here so if it stays dry I will be out to play for a while later. best not have a drink untill much later though !!
Hi Paul, Just a quick one mate, are the tie rod ends Sierra, the rack is, so l would guess they are, only thing is you can't get them here, have to order from the UK, contacted RTR couple of times to order and no reply. Thank god for you guys and this site for your support?
Thanks Kevin, that's nice of you to let me know mate, just another thing added to, well, l may fill you in at some point later about the supplier we have here mate I will be posting some pics when l get some bits, and hopefully asking some questions from you if that's ok, what's your set up mate and what was the low points of the build. Cheers Will
