Now the wife is off the computer I can update a few more photos of what else I've been doing. Card template for the infill panels on the sides . I'm going to fit perforated steel plate in the first two openings on each side in order to try and offer some water / road spray protection to the rear of the dash and the electrics etc. You can also see a small tube that I have added ……... ……. the small tube together with a steal plate infill is used for the mounting area for my side mirrors which will just bolt through the hole. And finally the head light mounts that will be welded in once I've popped down to Southampton IVA test centre to make sure the corners won't fall foul of sharp edges or anything like that. Got a feeling I might have to radius them a but more .

Good news … popped into VOSA Southampton today and spoke to an inspector who very kindly checked my headlight mounts. (he even came down from his lunch break to do it) Just need to sand the end a fraction but otherwise all ok. He also confirmed that the Photon headlights are OK. They don't need to be E marked as long as the light runs a standard bulb everything is fine. jgilbert, I know you have the same lights and raised the question that they weren't e marked.. I must say I have found the inspectors at Southampton very helpful. Carrying on with the centre console. I've pretty much finished the tube work but still need to add some mounting tabs for the panels. I got the top ones cut today and will get the rest cut at a later date. These will be powder coated black to match the seats and bodywork whilst the tubing will be silver. With regards to the gear lever and hand break I'll probably fit these unless anyone can suggest something else which is better. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-VINYL-HANDBRAKE-AND-GEAR-GAITER-AND-RINGS-UNIVERSAL-FIT-KIT-CAR-ETC-NEW-/151258178904?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2337b0a558Also got the perforated steel side panels cut as well. Should look nice when its all coated.

All I seem to be doing at the moment is making brackets.. This one is to support the air filter etc and will be bolted to the chassis at the top inside face of the front suspension mount. Can't drill the holes at the moment as I can't fit my drill in the space so I have make it with marker pen so I can drill them when I remove the chassis to fully weld everything and then get it powder coated. Centre console is almost done. just a few more tabs to fit for the panels to fix to.. however as i'm only using a small gas bottle I have run out of gas. Just need to decide what gauges etc I can put on the console to fill out the space nicely. was look to getting this from RTR but can't think what to put in the other two holes along with the hazard switch and rear fog switch. Any one go any suggestions on gauges or other switches. The space I'll have is 170 mm x 270 mm..

How about having some fun ones knocked up. Maybe ejector seat and missiles! Savage switches will engrave whatever you want! Be a laugh ;-)

Nice ideas with the button's … I think I have to come back to that later... popped in to see my new rear end .. looks a lot better being mainly one colour. The pattern is now very smooth and about ready for the female mould to be made. In a couple more weeks I should have a finished product. Like the dash I made, this rear cover will not have any visible fixing points as it will have an internal lip at the base that will stop the sides flexing and moving and also act as a fixing point to the chassis.

Hunchfront welcome to the site.. I think you over estimate my mechanical ability… This is the first kit I have ever done and probably be the only kit I build I do (but how many people have said that before) so I want to make it my own and be a high quality finish. I don't know my way around an engine… I know how to handle and drive a car but thats about it.. The reason I choose this kit was because I could learn how every thing works on the strip down and it really is not that hard. But thats the beauty with kit cars.. I can adapt it later and continue to make the car better … may be turbo but for now I'll just make it the best I can and leave the engine standard. It has taken me a lot longer than others and I have seen loads of new builder start and finish cars in a fraction of the time it has taken me to get to the stage I am now. There are lots of people willing to help with advise not just in the UK but in the US , New Zealand amongst others. Each build is different for a number of factors …time, budget, ability etc …...all I will say is go for it … you don't know what you can achieve until you try. Good luck Chris

Managed a couple of hours on the car today between playing football with my son.. not a huge amount done but needed to adjust the centre console as it was much too tight of a fit and would have damaged the powder coating getting it in once it was coated. Also cut the gear lever and handbrake openings. Started of my marking the hole opening and then stitch drilled it out. The gear lever will sit nice and central. And fitted with the chrome surround Then just a case of doing the handbrake. I just about had enough space for the handbrake to sit on the left side of the console. Once its all coated and finished I will obviously be fitting a PVC gaiter to both the gear lever and the handbrake. Next to sort out the side panels of the console.. which will hide all the handbrake cables etc and the plan is to use the space behind the new console and above the original alloy gearbox cover to hide all the electrics etc. Update on the rear tank cover…… female pattern mould has been made from the pattern I made. Should have a finished piece in a couple of weeks or so.
