Now that you have passed it is time to step back a little and spend some time with the wife. catch up on things she want done. For a little while.. She put up with all your ranting and time in the garage.. George, Half the reason it has taken nearly 4 years to get to this stage is because I've been doing all the things she wanted doing as well. New kitchen, new bathroom, ensuit, hall decorated etc etc. I'm sure sometimes she prefers me being in the garage anyway as that way and not getting under her feet and making a mess in the house. On a serious note there are a couple of small jobs just to finish the car off like seat padding , aero screen etc. To those that have fitted aero screens, what thickness polycarbonate have people gone for I was thinking 4mm?

Nice brackets would be even better and lighter in aluminium alloy. I have spent the last 2 hours under mine tidying the loom and I noticed a little connector I missed and was catching on the diff. We ain't have wise us kit car people Can that form not be downloaded cause every other form you seem to be able to?? Made one out of alloy but it wasn't up to the job so had to make two like this. The V55/5 has to be ordered from DVLA as it is a twin layer carbon copy form. www.gov.uk/dvlaforms

Can that form not be downloaded cause every other form you seem to be able to?? Its a duplicate with carbon copy type form. You have to order it from the DVLA and although its free it takes its time. I ordered the full set of forms at the outset of my planning so I could be sure that I would have what I would need (Both from the DVLA and for them) when the time came. I'd recommend anyone did the same as I can only imagine the frustration of passing the IVA and having to sit around waiting for paperwork that you could have pre ordered!

That's great info on getting the forms early thanks.
Yes as you say Chris the steel will be alot stonger and you have removed half the weight anyway as so much cut away. Nice job

Flyscreens - I used 3mm polycarb and it's fine, but I think 4mm might have been better.
I have not found the optimum height of screen - mine lifts the buffeting just high enough to ensure that I get more turbulence inside my crash helmet, but seems fine when just using cheapy eye defenders rather than a lid. I'd recommend that you start by making the screen top only just below your line of sight - mine is about 6cm below my line of sight, and that's a shame!
Another slight issue is that the lip onto which the screen is mounted (on my bonnet version - perhaps this was corrected on later versions), creates a shallower screen angle on the nearside.

Cheers for the advice I am aware of the issue with the screen angle on the nearside being different. I have a plan to correct this so the angle will be the same all the way across the screen. If it works it should be fine as a retro fit for others to do. More on this later.

Chris check Nitrams build he came up with a nice fly screen also make sure you leave a small gap between the bonnet and base of fly screen

Some time ago when I was getting the tank cover made for my car I mentioned that I was planning to fit a rear spoiler to give the car more height and width at the rear. I had planned on buying a carbon fibre spoiler that would mount on my rear cover near the edges inline with the rear lights / reflectors on the cover. mevowners.proboards.com/thread/3878/tridents-exocet-build?page=8 Although I had extra core matting built into the rear tank cover to give it more strength it still had a little flex on the top. Unlike the US models there is no space to mount something on the rear diagonal brace bars that run between the roll bar and the rear shock mount. Whilst chatting with jgilbert some time back he felt there was a possible way to mount the spoiler to the chassis instead of the tank cover. It was a great idea however with my new wider tank cover I wasn't sure it would work on my build as I had very limited space for the base bracket. Still with his permission I gave it a go. Bearing in mind I wasn't sure it would work I decided that I would look for a cheap second hand spoiler instead of using a brand new £200 spoiler. Found this for £15. It was a bit beat up but nothing that couldn't be sorted out. The next thing was to decide how high it needed to be mounted so with some wire I hung it from the garage roof over the car. I then played about with making some card templates for the mounts. As you will now see, the idea that john came up with was to mount the spoiler to the chassis using the suspension mounting plate. The brackets that I made for mounting the spoiler have now been powder coated and fitted to the car. I had made these originally out of aluminium but they weren't going to be up to the job so these were remade out of 3mm steel. I just about had enough space to mount the bracket. The next job was to make the supports out of 6mm ali.

So with a card template made I set about making the support out of the 6mm aluminium. Having drilled the corner holes for the internal cut outs it was then a case of connecting the holes and lots of filling to smooth out the edges. Oh now I wished toI had a laser cutter. The brackets on the bottom of the spoiler also needed relocating. M5 rivnuts were used. Originally the bottom bracket had just been secured with self tapper screws. Relocating the bracket now meant that I had 8 unwanted holes in the bottom of the spoiler. Not having access to any aluminium welding supplies I came across a need brazing wire at Stoneleigh kit car show. First time you melt it it runs at about 330 Deg C but then the properties change and the next time you have to heat it to about 500deg c for it to melt. This allowed me to fill the holes with a small amount of ali and then in effect braze the hole shut . A bit of a file and it was done. Also used the same wire to fill some unwanted holes in the bracket. Heat the wire with blow torch until it melts and then let it cool down. Spoiler side bracket fixed to the base bracket. i used insulating tape to protect the chassis whilst I was working on it. Old side brackets that came with the spoiler against the new ones I made.

Love the ingenuity! Simply brilliant. Now you know why I asked you for the size and height of your spoiler. Cheers for your help
