Well done, you must be chuffed with both the build and passing relatively hassle free.

Cheers guys, I am very pleased with the result and the fact that the test was relatively hassle free. Things that help with a hassle free test are to ensure you have read the iva manual more than once and know that is and isn't allowed. You're never going get everything right or know everything word for word but then again neither is the examiner which my examiner openly admitted to. Don't get me wrong my examiner knew his stuff inside and out but it gives them confidence in you as a builder if you know the manual as well. after all you have built the car so you should know it. Other things that helped are not getting into an argument over something that is probably going to fail. For example my front lights. I was asked about the tank cover being removed and replied I can remove it but it will take about 15 min to remove and the same refit. He was happy with my answers in relation to breather pipe on the tank and the earth strap on the tank. Not much else really on the iva test other than to present the best car that you can. That said once you do pass it is a little of an anti climax as you still can't drive the car until its registered. On that point I have just discovered you need to order one of the forms from DVLA ( V55/5 ) which can take 7 - 10 day to arrive and then I've got to fill it out and wait again for the registration application to go through. www.gov.uk/dvlaforms If you near to iva order to form now so you can apply for registration straight away. This isn't the end of my build though as I have a few more new ideas for my car. Thanks for the help that people have given me along the way. This is my first ever build and without the help from some of the people on here it would have been a lot harder.

Did the examiner check that the Vin plate was fully welded and that you had a drip tray to stop fuel leaking on exhaust? Did he ask for receipts for the fuel lines and elbows etc for the filler?

Did the examiner check that the Vin plate was fully welded and that you had a drip tray to stop fuel leaking on exhaust? Did he ask for receipts for the fuel lines and elbows etc for the filler? He checked the chassis number and I'd plate both days. The question on the chassis number never up as mine is fully welded. If I were you I would stamp the number in again on the front suspension mount surface under the bonnet ( jgilbert has done this as his number was lost under powder coating) john any chance of a photo for Chris? No he didn't ask about the fuel pipe etc .in fact I didn't have to show him any reciepts. He checked for the drip guard and asked about the breather pipe as he was testing another Exocet a couple of weeks ago which was fitted with an after market fuel filler and when the owner took off the cap petrol came out of the cap due to pressure build up in the tank as there was no breather. That Exocet also passed after a couple of tweaks and fitting of the original fuel filler.

Well thanks to Mawdo81 who sent me his copy of v55/5 to save me waiting for DVLA to send one through I have now completed the registration documents ( well at least I think I've done them right). They will be sent off first thing tomorrow special delivery so I know that they get there. I've also made a couple of new brackets for my car along with some other items. Not going to go into too much detail at the moment but it should be good once it's all done. 2" x 2" before after Just because I've now passed iva doesn't mean I've finished !!! Just don't tell the wife it will never be finished. There is always soothing that can be done to make it better faster etc.

Nice brackets would be even better and lighter in aluminium alloy. I have spent the last 2 hours under mine tidying the loom and I noticed a little connector I missed and was catching on the diff. We ain't have wise us kit car people
Can that form not be downloaded cause every other form you seem to be able to??
