Just going through the guidance notes and filling in my application. I had for security left the immobiliser that was fitted to my donor car in the wiring loom when I fitted the electric to my Exocet. I'm now a little worried that in the guidance notes at point '4m' it says I need to show documentary evidence of compliance. Yeah like I have that from a 20 year old donor. www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/402673/iva-1c-guidance-notes.pdfHas anyone had their car tested and had an immobiliser fitted? What evidence of compliance did you have or get ? Also for those that have one fitted to their donor be aware of this when deciding to keep it or not.

Not many replies Found this out from Thatcham Fitters website … thatchamfitters.co.uk/car/cars-with-factory-fitted-thatcham-security/mazda.htmmight be useful for others.. this indicates that my car was fitted with a Cat 2 immobiliser when new as it's a UK car registered July 1994 which puts it in the May 94 - Sept 95 bracket for MX5. I've also contacted Mazda UK for confirmation that my car was supplied with a Cat 2 immobiliser when new. Still waiting for reply. This confirmation from manufacture should be enough in the way of confirmation it meets required standards from reading the iva manual. Bet you guys in America are glad your not in the UK. As immobilisers were fitted as standard to UK cars from at least 1994 I can only imagine that those that use the NB model must state that they have no immobiliser fitted or remove it.

The IVA application guidance notes have not kept up with the IVA manual. In the revision record of the appropriate chapter:
3 29/06/2009 Remove the requirement of documentary evidence for the immobiliser
This is the Basic section of the test (which applies to our Exocets); the Normal section still requires the documentation.

Nitram Many thanks you're a star.. I was looking at section 13a in the normal section. Paperwork has been submitted for iva test. John Even though you have removed your immobiliser your car will be fine as you still have the steering lock which is all that is required. The immobiliser is only require if you don't have a mechanical anti theft device. Page 113 of the manual.

No mot required, and your exocet will be exempt for 3 years after passing just as a new car is ?

Chris.. Good looking build like the color combo.. One thing I did notice is the nose cone opening grill the holes look to small for good air flow.. You will need more flow to keep it cool..

Cheers guys for the comments I am very pleased with my first ever kit car build. The only person I have ever wanted to impress is the iva examiner. Its only taken four years to get to this stage and I must admit that it is this forum and the people on it that have helped with advice and knowledge that I could only wish for but also to keep the motivation up and to finish the car. IVA test here I come ….. once I get a date that is.
