The mot rule are different to the Iva rules. I specifically asked vosa about indirect vision devices as cameras suffice for mot but iva manual asks for mirrors. I was told that mirrors are needed.
An interior mirror is not required if it provides no rearward vision. Section 8 note 3
I think it might be hard to prove that in these style cars without fitting one...from what others have said I think it will be needed even though it won't meet the vision requirements and a near side mirror will be needed for that.

So if a mirror provides no rear vision you don't have to fit one but you can't prove this without fitting one?

kiwicanfly - that is indeed the conundrum! I've left mine in place, and have it angled to see my passenger and vice versa. Martin

Made a start on the front wing stays today. I'm going for a re-design of the MEV bracket as I really don't like the position of the rear most stay. Add to that that it is far to close to the wheel with no movement space to allow me to move it away from the wheel. Not great. The gap on the front one is much better. There is almost no gap on the rear. So this is what I have come up with. My first thought was to make a new top section and weld the two together. This will allow me to re position the front and rear stay. However rather than welding two bits I decided it would be better to make a brand new mounting plate. I made a new template out of some off cut of the lower side panels. It's really easy to cut with a sharp Stanley knife. All I have to do now is make this bracket out of metal and weld the stays in the correct positions. Simple

I have to say that I think the wheel arch brackets are a area for future improvement by MEV, in my experience.
Some nice laser cut mounting plates would look very nice and complement your already super look car. Maybe think about reducing the size of the late to reduce some sprung weight?

So now the hard part. Making the new mounting plates out of steel. I used the same thickness that was used by MEV. The plates were 6mm thick x 100mmm by 200mm I used a 57mm ( 2 1/4 " ) bi metal hole cutter for the large hole. The hole on the MEV one were 55mm but they don't make a hole saw that size. Once the large hole was cut i used the old bracket as a template for the bolt holes. I also filed out a square..ish hole for the small bump. With loads of old cloths and rags covering up my bakes disc calliper and everything else I located the wing stays in the correct position and then tack welded them in place. I did this with the wheel on …... which was also covered with rags. Once the stays were tacked in place I took off the brackets and fully welded the stays. The new brackets fitted. Left side Right side And the top view The old bracket and my new one. Very pleased with the result. Just need to fit the cycle wings ( fenders ) now.

Also done the heat shield for the exhaust. One part was fine but the other was a real pain. I'm never going to be a panel beater or sheet metal fabricator but it will hopefully do the job for the iva requirement. I didn't want it to be that visible from the rear of the car so tried to make the section over the triangle rear muffler a similar shape. The section over the rest of the exhaust pipe was a lot easier….. I tried to hide the heat shield behind the bars as much as possible when looking at the car from the rear. Unless someone gets right down on the floor it is not going to be that visible. Hopefully Job Done.

Hi Trident,
Saw your video on youtube, then all the photos on photo bucket then eventually came back to the site. Really neat build. Couple of questions. That exhaust, how much was the system that you had made from Mike Stokes? Also that black diamond or chequered flooring, where can I get it?

Did the final fit of my tank cover. Took loads of photos of the petrol tank etc to show the iva examiner so hopefully won't have to take it off for the inspection. The dog bowl filler cap recess has now lost it's true identity and blends in well. I also have a lockable petrol cap but the key can be removed when the cap it off so no good for the iva test. This will pass now it's fitted with a tether. The rear side profile and rear view. Still got some plans for a rear spoiler but for now this is how it will stay. Front and rear wing stays have now been powder coated and fitted. used the P Clip method that Nitram used. I have repaired the off side cycle wing that I messed up and once its done it will be very difficult to spot the error unless you look hard. There are other jobs still to do such as seat padding inserts and some graphics for the side panels but I am now about to submit the iva application and get it tested as I think I have covered everything required for the test. Fingers crossed. Unfortunately I can't see it being ready and on the road in time for Stoneleigh Kit car show.
