IVA Application sent off, just waiting now for date, and to start panicing. Ally Rad ordered, so used today to make some cheeky carbon fibre backing plates for my rear lights. Small details but finishes' them off nicely.

New ally rad now fitted, got it from Dan at www.fast5.co.uk Nice bloke and good service I would recommend. Finishes off the engine bay well. Fitting was easy, however I found my fan was touching the air intake and the anti-roll bar. So I decided to move the fan across to the drivers side of the rad. Then ran engine up to temp and all ok. I've also been finishing of little bits of the interior before the IVA. Handbrake and gearlever gaitor. Passenger seat fitted. We are off to Stoneleigh tomorrow to buy hundreds of metres of edge trim!!! hopefully see a few people there.

At Stoneleigh yesterday with Trident, nice to meet a few people and see some cars in the flesh, and thanks for all the helpful tips and advice. Lots of discussion on IVA do's and don'ts. Spent a fortune on rubber trim edging and have started the process of edge trimming for IVA compliance. One small problem I had was my front brake hose mounts, I made these nice and small, forgetting the future need for edge trim. No spare space to really apply edge trim to the bracket. So my solution has been to make a couple of larger 'plates' that I could add trim to. Simple case of them sliding on the original mounting points and hey presto, IVA compliant. Also TOP TIP from Trident (10 bonus points), self amalgamating tape can be wrapped around awkward components to form a soft radius. Example being the wishbone bushes. First photo 'as was'.

Flip I have started to edge trim mine and there is so many places potentially. Surprised that you need to edge trim round the bushes but using the self amalgamating tape is a great idea. Will you put a plastic nut cover on the wishbone bolt head?

Do the brake line brackets need to have edge trim on them. If anybody has their hand in there they have a bigger problem than getting cut on a bracket.

If the IVA mans ball (the foam one) can touch it then yes. And yes to the nut cover.

Colin Colin, I believe so, its not about practicalities, its a straightforward sharp edge that can be accessed with the foam ball without edge trim is a fail. I also think it shows attention to detail and that I have made every effort to comply.

So it you went to Stoneleigh then you would know the new Exocet has a one piece bonnet. Very nice. If you've followed some of the US builds then the you would know that the US Exocet has a one piece bonnet. Maybe ever nicer? So about a year ago we went down the same route. Its now time for paint. Check out this.

Loving the build. Have read every post and the detail you have is amazing. Since I am from the US I was wondering why exactly yall have to cover up the angles on the edge of things? What does it prevent?

I don't disagree, but it could be argued that the large bush washers are outside the 'enclosed volume'. Anyway as I said I think it demonstrates that I've tried to comply.

What does it prevent? Hi, in the UK we have a standard Individual Vehicle Inspection (IVA) test that applies to amateur built vehicles (kit cars). Basically the inspection is a set of tests to ensure the design and construction of the vehicle meets our Road vehicle regulations. One of the many things this looks at is the possible contact with 'unbunted' edges. A brief summary being. 4 inch sphere on a stick is used. If the sphere can touch a component then its edges need to have a certain radius in order not to cause damage if accidentally contacted my a pedestrian.
