I am surprised you are looking at a brake upgrade and you have not driven it in anger yet ha ha. I got new front calipers, mtec disks and yellow stuff pads and the brakes are fantastic as I have been out on a number of track days. The standard brakes on the exocet only have to stop 2 thirds the weight on the mx5.
As usual though you build is outstanding I always look forward to your updates

However, I didn't fancy stripping stuff down in a years time to reposition the brake line when I've got good access to it now. Good to know about your set up even if we don't change out the calipers in the new position fitting a proportioning valve is now a simple a simple job Cheers J&L

I'm currently running a group buy on the Wilwood brake upgrades. Believe me your brakes can never be good enough It's the same with the Rocket and Sonic guys. They have the Hispec options, why not fit them if they're available.

Hello, quick update. Next on the list is the exhaust. Decided that certainly for the time being to use as much of the standard exhaust as possible. I already had a new manifold and down pipe so decided to base my exhaust on the standard CAT and intermediate silencer and try to match this to a nice rear tail/pipe silencer. So last Sept whilst on holiday in the US, purchased a twin silencer (muffler) tail pipe set up and packed it into my suitcase. First job being to clean up and fit the CAT. I had to slightly modify the flange on the end of the manifold down pipe to ensure the side flanges on the CAT cleared the chassis. Photo doesn't show this too well but cut off the down pipe/CAT flange and re welded it. CAT is now well clear of the chassis. Using the intermediate hanger position, I had previously welded a simple bent bar onto the chassis to pick up this mounting point. Had to remake the hanger on the exhaust, so made a new hanger and tacked it alongside the old hanger (better welding 10mm bar onto 10mm bar than 1.5mm exhaust). Next photo shows this detail. And a side view. Hopefully high enough to prevent to much excess grounding. If you look closely you can see where I cut small slots using a thin disc grinder into the exhaust pipe rear of the silencer and then bend the pipe to move it up and to the centre of the car. Tacked these cuts ready for welding. And from the rear nicely centred. This is the pipe system I have, with a hanger bracket I have made bolted to the top of it. And to finish, two photos of where I'm going to try to position the tail pipes. I still have to make a step-up coupling from the standard exhaust to the tail pipe. Not sure how to do this yet but at least some process made. Can almost hear the rumble in this photo.

I like the stainless backbox there. I'm in the process of sorting the exhausts out on the race cars and building custom using Jetex parts. Something like that would finish it off nicely...

Nice under frame as well. What colour is that going to be? Also what does the exhaust sound like then?

Nice under frame as well. What colour is that going to be? Also what does the exhaust sound like then? Frame will be Orange to match the rest. Its removal but also helps brace the rear sub frame. I will need to mod as the bottom of the rear silencers is a bit to close. May look to incorporate a rear carbon fibre defuser type panel, we will see. Re noise, in truth I have no idea! I'm waiting on an adaptor to go from the 45mm O/D mid section of the exhaust to the 52mm O/D of the silencers. Once I have this then I can give it a go. The silencers come with some Db deadeners as standard so may end up fitting them. But I do like looking into into the two dustbin sized tailpipes. What do people think about the ends tails pipes on the silencers? will these be IVA compliant ? any views. Once I have it fitted will try to post a video.

Bit difficult to tell from the photos. IVA Manual Chap 16:
29. An exhaust tailpipe must not project beyond the floor line lying directly above it by more than 10mm, unless it terminates in a radius of curvature of at least 2.5mm and in all cases project no more than 150mm.
A bit of knock-on trim would give the correct radius at the time of the test......

Nitram, its defiantly not a 2.5mm radius, and I think it will project about 50mm, so your idea could be the answer, I was think of running a piece of stainless bar around it and welding to form a radius. Like your idea better

Took this video today. Exhaust without the removal baffles. Not really that loud. Once I can get the car out the garage I will give it a go with a dB meter.

And with Baffles, not sure I can really tell the difference? maybe a deep sound with the baffles that without.

John That looks and sounds very nice. It definitely looks better without the baffles in. I'm very interested to know what the dB(A) reading is. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to get mine done.

Hi, check your ground clearance - I made up my own system using a high flow cat and 2.5inch stainless tube; mine looked to be a tad higher up into the tunnel than yours, but still gave me clearance problems... yours looks so much cleaner than my huge stainless can across the back!
