Been down to see johnp's mx150r yesterday, lovely machine and my first chance to see and sit in an exocet, looked around the car which will definatley help in the building i think, great bloke and the lads who built it for him have some skills, currently building/finishing off a grass track car, a fiat chincochento shell with a custom built space frame, running 2 gzxr 1000 engine's in the back and weighs approx 400kg ............ that things going to be mental ... anyways thanks to john for letting me pop over and nose around. Hope you dont mind me posting this picture i took of it. Friday night seen some work done, stripped down the engine and cleaned and painted some parts, my ebay gasket set arrived yesterday as well (which i only ordered on friday) had a look through it, its got some gaskets but going to have to make some of them i think. plan is to take the head off and take the head and block to work to clean and degrease them, ill then strip the head and replace valve stem oil seals and lap the valves in to clean up the seats.

Here are some pictures over the last few days, got lots of parts cleaned and painted, engine mounts cleaned, painted and refitted, all be it the wrong way round i think I took the engine to work today after i had removed the head, got it de-greased and cleaned off, and then flushed out the oil galleries, cleaned the head face glaze busted the bores due to a few marks and replaced front and rear crankshaft oil seals, here's a few pictures of it clean, then got the gearbox plate, pulleys, dip stick tube and a few other bits painted and then painted the engine, should look nice when built up in silver and black. I plan on cleaning up the head tomorrow, then Ill strip it, lap in the valves in and replace valve stem oil seals. Once the block is dry im going to fit it into the subframe and start building the engine up in place, ill keep the updates going when i can.

I would have the head resurfaced also.. If that's not a new freeze plug on back of engine I would replace it at this time..

To be honest they are just cheap and nasty coil spring off flebay at the moment as 3 of my originals had snapped anyways and got them for about £20 so i got them just so i can build up the car get it running and iva'd then ill upgrade to gaz gold pro's or tein's i think when funds allow. Rebuilt the engine today, cam's in, cam belt on, cam cover, covers and pulleys all fitted with new gaskets, painted cam cover, alternator and loads of brackets and bits and bobs, just need another coat on the cam cover and detail the lettering. Only parts left to refurb/paint are the inlet manifold and parts attached to it. Still undecided on if i should get a stainless ebay exhaust manifold or just stick with the standard one and paint it with high temp paint, and then use a head blanket as i know my supercharger will fit above those, would be a pain and might be a waste of money if i cant fit it with the supercharger on :S, suppose i can always upgrade later. Ill get some pictures on tomorrow when i get chance. Its starting to look like a real car again

Did you put the bump stops back on the shocks..can't really tell from the pics.. On the rear of the head you might want to replace that rubber cap and fitting by the temp sender with a brass plug unit while you can get to it..

Yes bump stops were reused, the rear coolant water plug was fine, no swelling and will be easy to get to anyway in the exocet frame.

Cheers thanks for the comment, as i am fitting a supercharger to the engine it will only fit the with the standard manifold but the heatshield needs to be romved for clearance. Aftermarket manifolds do fit but have to be careful of the positioning of the 02 sensor as this can foul the supercharger also. I think i plan on building the car and getting it up and running with all the lights done etc then either start the supercharger install and iva, or iva then install the supercharger over the winter next year.
