Fantastic approach to the instruments. It always delights me to see builders being creative, it would be a shame if all Exocets were the same, even a matching pair is not likely. Well done chap.

Ive had a change in design since the comments about the mazda instrument cowl so ill post up some pictures later of how i plan on fitting all the gauges. I think I might just attach the digi dash straight to the steering cowl so no need for shrouds. Only think i need to check is the iva requirements for dash displays. Can anyone shed any light on this.

Yesterday was a productive day, some of my parts finally got powder coated and im told the rest should be done on wednesday. I got back the parts that had been to anyother company to get shotblasted and e coated, they were they done in satin black and look brilliant, the main thing is that they are coated inside as well as out which should give even better rust protection. I had enough parts to poly bush all lower arms and then cleaned up the alignment bolts and fitted the two arms to the rear subframe. Ill be cleaning up and painting parts as needed in the build and once i've aligned the car when complete ill paint all the bolt heads to stop them corroding. Fitted the brake pipe clips and new brake pipe, i used copper 3/16 pipe and then covered it in wiring heatshrink to make it black and stop it from going green, plus it looks much much better. Started with the poly bushes Reusing the old alignment bolts but are very rusty,so wire wheel attachment in the grinder, gloves and goggles on as these wheels are damngerous the little pieces of wire come out and are like little darts as i found out in my hand :l Rear sub frame done as much as i can until the other parts arrive fronts arms bushed and boxed up until needed Moved everything onto the bench to stop damaging and cant go any further building so decided to make some space and strip down the front and rear subframes as i am fitting a clutch to a friends car this week so need to get that into the garage. Now here is where i am so glad that i bought the green donor car and its a warning to others looking for a donor, spend a little more and id suggest buying an import or late uk car. My old red car was a 1990 model and i had an absolute nightmare trying to take it apart much to the point where i have decided to just bin it. Every bolt i touched snapped, EVERY BOLT, sub frame alignment bolts, propshaft nuts, brake pipe flexi, caliper bolts, what an absolute nightmare it was, and at this point i was shattered as id been up since 7, at work fitting a new fuel pump to her ford ka and coolant leak, then my step dads ford focus for timing belt and water pump and air con inop, then home at 1 to start doing this. At this point i was around 5pm and i was getting annoyed with it. So into the red mazda shell it went. I even managed to split the subframe when trying to remove a bolt, and bent the lower section where the arm attaches, it is well and truly rotten, i had a go with a hammer and also found a couple of small holes in it. Let this be a warning to others, cheap might not necessarily be cheap, if i had of used this i would have needed new sub frame, all new bolts, also the mounting point for the diff bolts all 4 snapped. Right Rant over im getting tired now and its time to make a start on the front removed gearbox Then pulled the engine off the subframe, a little tricky on your own with no hoist but still can be done, removed the engine mounts, put a block of wood under the front pulley and tilted the engine up, then just pushed the subframe out, simple Well day nearly over and i was getting hungry so time for a tidy up and make some space really need to sort out which set of wheels i want and sell the others and all done tidy and ready for the little Citroen clutch and plenty of room. I might if i can be bothered go in there today and start stripping the front subframe, this is in much better condition than the rear and looks like it will come apart a little easier. Well its coming on nicely now once my friends car is done im going to place all the parts out where they will end up and start building it all up Can't wait

Be VERY careful with those prosports. I and many other have had a number of sensor failures in both temp and boost gauges. as well as inaccurate gauges

Well my garage is now free to build in. All the scraps out my way and its rebuild time Went in the garage after work to start sorting through my box of bolts as when i was stripping the donors down i just threw all the bolts in one box, if your not used to working on mx5's this is a bad idea but i knew where they all went and what for, a lot of them were not needed. Ive started by laying out all the parts in the place where they will be built up, and im going to refurb and paint as i go along, ordered a 2.5L tin of hammerite black paint, retail is £39.44 but got a really good discount on it from someone i know and got it for £27 which is a bargin, i can add that to my build cost sheet now, which is increasing pretty quickly shusssssh dont show the mrs that file haha. Here are some pictures Bolts left over after id sorted through them and took the ones i needed Parts laid out and some built up Now ive been told the rest of my parts should be done tomorrow, it seems they just keep getting put off and put off, and its starting to get boring with the excuses now, its just that the amount of parts hes doing for me and the price hes charging is really good compared to other companies i cant really complain.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Powder coat parts are done haha that didnt take long now did it. Worth the wait tho as they all look awesome now. Will have to wear slippers to drive it as i dont want to scuff my new shiney pedals That's a little taster of them, the missus is out tonight so free night without hassle for me to get in the garage and get the rest of the bushes fitted and generally start rebuilding. Not looking forward to cleaning up the old bolts like but needs must. Only parts im waiting on are the top arms with the ball joints in for the fronts as he didnt want to powder coat them and bake them incase the grease inside exploded in the oven which he said hes had happen bofore, so hes going to put 5 primer coats and 2-3 base in satin black so they are protected. There not going to withstand upto wear like powder coat but should be fine. i will get my hammerite tomorrow so can really get started. Oh and my new blue led push button start has arrived i just need to pick it up from the post office
