The easiest way to do this on the 1999 - 2001 engines is to remove the Oil Cooler bolt, and drill the centre, then tapp it to the thread size you need, and fit it into the front of the oil cooler bolt, then refit into the engine, do this once oil is drained of course. I have drilled a spare oil cooler bolt and will fit it when I drop the oil in the next week or so. I was told on later engine's there is a blanking plug to tap into, but not on my engine I am told.

On the front of your engine, behind the exhaust down pipes, you should have a round alloy cylinder, this is the Oil Cooler, and it has a huge bolt that holds it in place, maybe 30MM. www.gdlcycles.com/general/281-14151-OilCooler-1.jpgThis view is from the right hand side of the engine if you were sat over the engine facing forwards i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/bstetler_99/oilcooler003.jpgThis is how the bolt looks out of the cooler. www.oemmotorsports.com/Garage_Sale_Images/rmotoreng-1341712814-73157.jpgYou need to ideally mount the bolt in a lathe to drill absolute dead centre, because there is not much meat on this bolt for drilling off centre. Then tapp the hole to the thread pitch and then seal the temp sender with maybe pipe ptfe tape and fit, this should be a good seal and should create not only an option for Oil Temp, but if used with a T Piece, also Oil Pressure. I have an Oil P gauge I need to wire up, so I will fit my bolt then, and find out what happens. If you need anymore help just let me know Nick

I'd like to know if there is a magnet on the M14 bolt? I Purchased a oli Temp sensor but I am wondering where to place it. Removing a magnet seems to be a nono IMHO. I am not able to empty my engine without having my chasis at home for inquiries. thx. Erik Oil plug has no magnet. Independent oil temp sensor is better, fancier, but also more complicated and not really necessary. My orientation is that within two kilometers the thermostat already opens. (At that point dash temp reading starts) Engine reaches temperature relatively fast. Much faster than my (air / oil cooled) bmw motorbike.

Of course an air cooled engine temp gauge heats up way slower because it is measuring oil temp and not watertemp which the dash of the R1 shows. Go figure why Nick's engine got ruined.

Engine still not ok.
Start is fine. Stationary is ok. After 2 km irregular sound After 1 extra km engine stalls.
Tomorrow more investigation.

Brought (/ Towed) my Tr1ke to a motorbike workshop for diagnoses. All sparks were sparkling. Plenty of fuel in the tank. Also very poor cold starts. (sounds like engine is running on 2 cylinders?)
Will see.

Hi Erik, This evening visited the workshop. Carburetors were very dirty and likely causing the gremlin. The engine is 12 years old, so need for some good maintenance is understandable. All is cleaned, now waiting for parts. Tomorrow final assembly and synchronizing after that we know for sure.
This weekend we have very nice weather.
I hope this will be the last bug fix for my tR1ke.
