Last week picked up my donor bike: Great bike with just some minor damage. It`s a 2000 model. My arguments to use this particular model for donor: - Black wheels
- Low exhaust, for the tR1ke I prefer a low exhaust. So no exhaust routing modification needed.
- Easy carburetors. Gives better low rev response, easy servicing.
- Early generation r1 are bullet proof. When sufficient cooled and oiled.
- Blue color almost matches the marine blue panels I ordered with my tR1ke. Painting is not direct needed. In the Netherlands a blue R1 is also a popular color so I hope to recoup a fair part of the bike.
- The seller complained his friends all drove Harley.....
- Perfect cold start. After 50s choke can be turned off. Maintained by an official Yamaha dealer.
I am used to my BMW R1200GS, so driving a R1 was "different". Lack of comfort, bad sitting position, but plenty of speed & powerrrr! Driving home with the bike, I decided never to drive it again. It is risky for my drivers license. With a some mixed feelings I washed it, took some pictures of the bike and started the careful dismantling. Of each part I took pictures and labeled it for later sales on ebay or the Dutch marktplaats.nl

Nice bike! Pity to demolish it though... Good luck! Yes but its for the greater good ;D There are R1's everywhere, but how many TR1KE's are you gonna see. I love having something totally off the chain to be seen in. Got my R1 stripped, just need my chassis now

Dismantling in progres... What's next? Exhaust, Radiator, airbox. Then the engine can come out?

Thats roughly how i did it! but .......
Dont forget the chain! you can simply take off the front sproket and not dismantle the chain.
all the cables have to taken off clutch, accelerator, trace all wires and make sure they wont snag you
i used a jack to lower the engine slowly to keep checking i had disconected everything the lifted the frame off the bike
you can keep allot of the electrics connected on the engine and get it out! also the fuel pump not sure yet wether thats good or bad as im just starting to get to the wiring

On a carbed R1, is there a fuel pump? If not, do we just use an aftermarket one from eBay for instance? I know if its Fuel Injected it will have one, but unsure about Carbed.
Cheers

Yep, the bike has a fuel pump. You can see it on the picture. Just above the rear shock absorber. A bit gold like colored.

This is a little tip from Flip : I took off the exaust and placed the bike on a empty beer crate with the sump. Then dismantled the rest: wheels, swingarm, front suspension, etc, until only frame and engine were left. Then I removed the engine mount bolts and nuts and could really easy lift the frame from the engine...

Should you finish the beer before or after removing the frame?

More dismanteling. Airbox, radiator, exhaust. Made a fixing point for my chain lift and hoisted the bike on a beer crate. (as suggest by vtR1k)

I finished the beer during dismanteling the bike Can you sell the parts that are left over easily? I didn't try yet, so I'm curious about it.

At this moment only a few items are for sale. I am waiting for the beginning of the bike season. Then there will be more need for spare parts....

Certainly! Especially the first week when 50% of all bikers wreck their bike

there easy to sell in the UK at least! the guy who was building the first put up his prices and mine sold for similar! upgraded parts sell well like dampners. fleabay was certainly the way to do it, some of mine went to Germany.
