fuel pressure regulator failed? Interesting idea. If its mechanical and broke maybe once the fuel starts to flow it shuts off?

Same path matey. Fuel pump runs on after engine stops for a couple of seconds on mine as well. Well we’re in it together then as I’m exactly the same. I’m now thinking ecu, could be wrong but picked up one to try I got a ecu and key etc off ebay to try. Was exactley the same. Not convinced yet on the immobiliser issue. Would buy racing ECU if i was certain it would do the job! I want to put a turbo on it on day anyway.

If its mechanical and broke maybe once the fuel starts to flow it shuts off? it doesn't work like that, maybe its not holding the pressure in the fuel rail and effectively once the initial pressure opens the injectors it dumps the fuel into the return line. That assumes the fuel pump is actually making enough fuel pressure anyway? It could be a few things. I have a few cars kicking around so I always have a few parts to swap and test. Where are you anyway?

Hi Folks. I want to rule out the immobiliser. The donor was a 97 1.8 with 3 plug ecu.
It starts and runs for a couple of seconds. It can be revved up no problem before it dies. When it dies and you dab the throttle you just hear air being sucked in. The video at biginning of thread shows this.
Fuel pump runs on after the engine stops.
I have swapped the pump out to a spare i have.
I have put new fuel filter on.
The spark keeps going even while the engine is just spinning down after it dies.
New afm
Unplug cas at it will not start
Unplug sensor at throttle and it runs ruff.
I have tried another ecu and key kit. No change.
Its defo the fuel/injectors cutting out or something.
Can the immobiliser be stopping it running. Does the immobiliser stop the fuel side working?
Is there a group i can join for a hug.....

Been through the exact same, I’m going to get a Megasquirt to remove all immobiliser doubt. I’m adding a turbo anyway so may as well do it now

Here is a little video about Mazda MX5 diagnostics I made a while ago:
Not sure it's relevant but it might be helpful.

Just a thought....
If you start it up and then keep turning the key on and off quickly, will it keep running?

you say there is fuel and a spark which is good, I assume you have a faulty immob box, they are a common fault
