Hello Russ,
Well done selling the car.
I like building cars too although I am much more into building race cars. I bought JH's chassis (G7 EXO) and enjoyed bolting in a mk2 with a few nice extra's. I mean I had it driving in 8 days so hardly gone through the pain you guys have!
I did look at many of the usual 7's available. But I tend to look at projects from the other end. I think what can I sell it for and cost it backwards. I usually make a few grand along the way (cars not kits). However that's not the norm I know that. Most people build to keep them.
If you are looking to sell afterwards I believe the Exocet is still the best bet. Because there are always loads for 7 kit cars on the market and very rare to see an Exocet. So that surely makes them worth a bit more and there wont be 10 others to compare on price. I think the chassis style appeals to more track day enthusiasts too. Big up the Atom look for MX5 money concept.
I think your idea of a MK3 is a great as it has a few more challenges. So hopefully you will go that way and I should think that's what I will build next.
I much prefer the mk3 chassis bulkhead design where the pedal box fits. Being a bit taller than the average bloke, I think I can build a more comfortable car and keep my helmet under the roll bar. I would also like to play with the electronics. I fancy a trick launch control setup that uses the abs to help get the power down rather than just ignition cut. I did it before with syvec's on an Impreza. So one eye on club motorsport options for it.
Thanks for sharing your posts and the story. Its been interesting. I admire anyone who is committed to posting all the pics and details. I certainly don't have that time. But reading these posts has saved me a few headaches.
Looking forwards to whatever you built next.
Cheers
John
