Great thank you, yes I have got cuto outs for the side to restrict testers access.
My only real concern during this whole process, are the lights and indicators that have been provided by MEV.
The headlight mounting points provided by MEV should also be in such a place to not be obstructed by the nose cone for the required 20 degree or heaven forbid 45 degree angles that the testers require.
I hope I dont have to mount the lights on some stupid temporary mounting\pole to get the required angles....

I am watching this with interest as I am in exactly the same position. I bought everything MEV to make my life easier. So far this has not exactly worked out and I don’t want to have to add lights to my growing list of things to fix that should have been right in the first place. Good luck!

It’s a kit car guys. It’s never going to be perfect. Isn’t that the fun having to overcome challenges to make it your own? Perhaps I have different expectations but if it was a perfect air fix kit I would have died of boredom by now 🤪🤪

Russ,
I applied for my IVA last weekend, how long before they get back to you?

If we welded mounting brackets to suit IVA requirements then as you say they will be deemed temporary and stupid by the owner, these additions tend to "fall off" after IVA. In order for the chassis to accommodate various headlight options we provide a mounting plate in the corners of the chassis which is the most versatile solution. Just like the fuse box, expansion tank and battery mounting etc, builders are encouraged to design and customise their builds with small items of this nature. This effort results in a higher sense of achievement.

Russ Are you still on for the IVA test this week? If so good luck as I have been following this build as I have the same model donor and similar issues found along the way so far.
Hope it warms up if you are still on for the 6th!

Yes, i am on for Tomorrow, Friday, typically the only day that shows 80% rain. I have taped it all up and covered electrics with plastic sheet etc best I can.
Bloody nervous, as have to drive it 30 miles. Main things I am concerned about:
-Wheels falling off. Got the stud kit from FreakyParts and they already loosened just driving to quickfit for laser alignment. I got thread lock stuff in there (better than threadlock) and leant on them with breaker bar....
-Headlights not passing vision angles or brightness.

IVA day last Fri 6th Dec. Had to drive to Hayes on the M3 and M25 – not the best in heavy rain. Car is a right state and had to take the seats out when I got home to dry them. Pretty gutted about that as it was meant to be only a fair weather car.
Basically I failed on one thing, which was after much deliberation between two testers, that the car really needs something under the fuel tank in case it ruptures, else fuel will drop straight down onto hot exhaust.
Bit miffed, as others have passed without a drip tray etc.
So, already rebooked for Thursday 19th Dec for 45 min re-test at £90.
Not sure if its worth saying what was checked during my IVA as maybe other testers will review differently, however: Light angles not checked, but brightness etc was Nothing was really noted inside the car. One seat harness bolt under the car needed to be tightened all the way through the nylock bit of the nut. He said interior mirror was too low, but let me off. Rear number plate light bolts that I used were a bit crap (£3 from China) but he let me off. He did not look inside wiring tray. He did look a lot at vin plates etc He took it for a drive twice. It wasn’t quite centering very well, but I passed. Make your tyres toe out a little to make this better.
I didn’t need to take rear cover off, but asked for pic for breather pipe, as I only use a one pipe fuel system on this 1.8 vvt.
He really did seem to only glance over things, but obviously had a well trained eye, and said it was an extremely clean build, most notably the engine bay with very tidy wiring.
Fairly chuffed that the build itself was faultless, so now to get it passed and sold so I can do another one.

Well done Russ, irritating but clearly it was very very close. There is a little discrepancy on the tank heat shield, not to do with a ruptured tank though, that would be covered under items that may rupture like bolts sticking through. The issue is heat potential and therefore depends on your exhaust and its position. That said it is a free retest item so you can ask for your £90 back if you have paid or point out that it is a free go when you arrive at the test centre.

Well, its pretty much the end of the project, so please see attached my total expenses. Next time I plan to save on alot of postage, by ordering more items in one go, and of course I now have all the tools required for the next one, and many spares left over too.
