A LHD update would be great. I'm very interested to order one too.
Thanks, Mark

Good news on the LHD front. I have built one already but we have used RHD column and pedals on the opposite side and a LHD rack is on the way to us. It looks like the LHD pedals/column are slightly different so I am waiting to get hold of a LHD pedal set and column to make sure. The laser cut bulkhead is now on CAD for L or RHD, so very soon if you need one is the answer.

Thanks for the LHD update. I'll keep checking with you to see how it's coming. I already found a Miata that I couldn't pass up. So, as soon as you're ready to start selling the LHD version, I'll be placing my order!

Unfortunately, it won't be cheap from what little bit I've learned. "Cordycord" from the exocars.net forum recommended I look into Expeditors International to import the car to the states. I'm assuming that's who he used for his Sonic7.
Stuart estimated in an earlier email to me that it would cost about $750 to crate the kit and about $925 to ship it to the states. I haven't had time to look into it any further because I've been waiting on the LHD version to be finalized.

Plus there's the hassle of registering a kit car in various states. I know it is do-able where I'm at in Illinois, but I don't know all the specific details. I think it comes down to providing documentation that you purchased everything (ala, nothing is stolen) and pictures from three different angles. Where more issues arise (here) is with things such as windshield and windshield wipers...

Where more issues arise (here) is with things such as windshield and windshield wipers... Back in '97 I built an FFR Cobra. I went the legal route of getting it registered here in Michigan. Yes, wipers (and washers) were part of the safety inspection. Along with things like a parking brake, horn, etc. Thinking back to how many/most of the VW bug based kits are though, they seem to still be titled and registered as the bug the pan came from. Believe that is what you were referring to in your earlier posts regarding having the existing VIN remaining on the donor parts. That is what my plan would be. To just keep registered as the Miata/MX5. Wonder if it would be any less expensive to import more than one kit at a time. Yourself (Chicago), 300tt (Columbus) and myself (Detroit) are reasonably close enough to each other to maybe work some sort of group buy and get this product into the states for MEV. What do you think?

hsr65,
Re: registration - I plan to do the same.
From talks with Stuart it looks like Cordy (Texas) is also looking to get one. It sounds like it definitely will save us a bundle on shipping if we can do a two or more at a time. I'm in Atlanta, but I'm sure between the five of us we could get a plan together.

I live in Portland, Oregon and have had some brief email correspondence with Stuart also about shipping a Sonic or Exocet kit to USA. I would be interested in the option of adding my order to the list of a combined US shipment. I understand I would have some additional land transfer expense to get it to the west coast. Please keep me in the loop.
Sincerely,

I like the idea of trying to save some money by shipping a few at a time. I can try to find out some more about shipping and how much it would save to import a couple at a time. If I find anything out, I'll make another post.

Don't forget import tariffs/taxes. Also, registering it as the Miata donor might present new challenges from an emissions aspect. Here in Texas, if the car is over 25 years old, there are no emissions testing. You might want to consider keeping the cat for that purpose. I don't think they had 1985 Miatas

A deal is possible here, you send us a case of sunshine and we will send a case of Exocets, fair? It costs about £1200 to pack and supply a case acceptable to USA spec. I reckon 2 will cost about the same to send as one would. That said if you guys wish to start a fabrication shop then I can offer a deal with jigs/moulds to suit. How very very tempting. I may just have to come over and check it's all O.K though, pure hard work but I may have to do it. Such dedication, hope you guys get my humour! I don't.
