Forgive me if I have missed some information regarding this, but what are the major differences between the two body styles? I have had limited access to this forum and the MEV website recently and as a result I have become confused. Are both body styles currently on the vehicle (i.e. pictures of each) or has only the one style above been finished? Thanks, and again, I apologize if I have missed any information. Well it seems that everyone prefers the third version. Thats the red with a black stripe. I can supply the original orange panels as seen on the Newark show launch car but the latter tweeks have made the panels become more cohesive as they flow with the lines of the tubes of the chassis. Attached is a side profile showing, er flowing. From above the new rear cover also flows with the top side rails right through to the front grille. Colours make a major difference to this car but the orange/blue car had several style tweeks before it was painted red. I have also painted the grille black now which sits well with the black stripe. Thanks for the clarification Stiggy, I was under the impression that there were two very different body styles available but now I understand the styling. I do like the red and black style, however, I think the sharper angles of the original body style give the car a different aggressive look. Making both an option may sit well. I, along with others I'm sure, would appreciate more pictures (side-by-side maybe) of each style. Otherwise, I really love the vehicle. Also, is there any progress or options on LHD?
Thanks!

LHD is no problem, we have an order for 10 that will be built here and shipped to Tenerife for sea front hire. We are doing a trial LHD version right now but we are using cheaper RHD cars with LHD racks. I have to find 10 lhd manual racks though. LHD racks taken as part deposit/kit payment! Just wired the lights today, another very easy 5 minute job. I had concerns that the wires for the headlight lift motors on the MX5 may cause complications but it is just a matter of leaving them un plugged. Simple. Also found the switches comply with IVA and the hazard switch can remain un-touched. Horns are very loud too. Fitted 4 new 10 watt headrest speakers today, (£26 on ebay buy it now) the MX5 ones were only 5 watt. Santa Pod next weds if anyone wishes to see us trying to rip the clutch out as it's a drifting day. Regards Stiggy

Wow, quick response... thanks! Glad to know that LHD is in the pipeline. (Amateur question alert!) I am assuming that the problem is the LHD steering rack? If so, the LHD donor car's steering rack should fit right? Also, I am not so familiar with the LHD "conversion" process here but I am also going to assume that the drivetrain is identical in both versions (LHD, RHD) of the car, although that's a statement not a question. Anyway, I am just getting my facts straight. One last thing, I know the options list is limited in the effort to keep things cheap, but is there an option for colored chassis powdercoating and the willwood brakes/pedals with this kit? Thanks

Hi I am looking at going for this kit as I have built a few fast mx5 turbo and supercharged, what a great car they are. Has the Exocet got enough room under the bonnet to do this? I am going to call mev to chat who is the best person to talk too ?

Thanks Sorted the LHD-RHD option. All we need is LHD racks from USA to sort this one properly. Could get the chassis done in virtually any colour for a small extra charge. I have a pic on our site now with the lid off the engine. I reckon without the side grille mesh there should be enough room for turbo etc. Not sure about Willwoods for MX5's there are loads of up grade options however. Attachments:

OK, I think now I'm on the right page... Thanks again stiggy for the info, you have answered practically all my questions (for now). One thing about the prototype; what engine is in it and what are is it's specs (weight, accel, etc.)?

there are a few companies that offer big brake conversion for the MX5 Performance5 offer Both front and rear conversions upping it to 285mm(FR) and 275mm(RR) with wilwood calipers HiSpec offer fronts at either 285mm and 300mm with their own Billet 4 pots Moss Europe offer the HiSpec and have a discount price at the moment EuroPerformance offer both 6 and 10 pot TarOx conversions with 300mm disc for the front but these may be for the mk3 mx5 and at £1500 its not cheap motorsportworld offer the AP Racing conversion with 276mm discs and 4 pots but again at £1200 its not cheap
as you can see theres loads out there if you need them or if you have a 1.6 donor mx5 you can fit the 1.8 carriers and calpipers with the bigger discs which will work out the cheapest option for better brakes

Thanks squeltch, I appreciate the info, however some of these brakes seem a bit overkill for a half ton exocar, but the options seem very good.

Exocet has no need for larger brakes, we increased the brake power by losing around 350kgs. It is still possible to get the car lighter by using better wheels, grp seats, alloy tank, alloy calipers etc. I used a 1.8 it now has an increased power to weight ratio of 30+%. The brakes are well balanced too. No doubt Mazda had a few clever chaps sorting that one out. It has a proportional valve fitted as standard and it feels perfect. We use the servo too. Regards Stiggy

That being said; would there be any point in using the willwood pedals supplied on the other kits?

Yeah the brake setup is good s standard on the 5 The only upgrades i would do on building an exocet is braided hoses good quality disc (using the 1.8 if possible as they are slightly bigger than the 1.6 version) and good quality pads either ebc ultimax or mintex 1144
Question for stiggy can you use the power steering rack on the exocet or does it need to be manual

If this is the wrong location for this question (I'm new here) let me know, but what portions of the original donor's chassis, if any remain? More importantly, are there any locations where the donor's VIN remains on the completed car?
Also, is a wind screen in the works by any chance? Not necessarily something structural or even very functional... more just for legality's sake.
