Got the pics of the filler tonight, the total length of the filler pipe is 9". The pics show where the cuts should be and then cut the 90 degree bend to suit the height of your hood. First plumb line the hood, just fix other end to garage roof and do not adjust the length once hood is plumbed. Second make and fit filler, Cut breather to length Put all together and re- plumb, remember you need to be about 25mm lower than the plumb to allow the flap fitment. Fully fitted all that is left is to clamp to threaded bar

Update on my Progress:- I have now un-bolted the tank and spun it round and made the 15mm spacers. I have found that :- the Top right (new filler corner) tank hole matches up with an origonal car hole i drilled. The top left Tank hole lines up with tank support bar but needs a new hole drilled. The bottom left hole has nothing below it, will need to rivnut in a bracket. The bottom right hole is about 80mm away from the metal plate, i have one option and that it to extend a hole that already exists in this cormer, it is about 6mm accross and is directly above my orignonal car hole. (pic below). I would need to extend this hole, there is no tank area near this hole and the lip is quite big. Is it a bad idea to extend this hole??? thank you Toby p.s. Stevie, How did the Marathon go???

Why not just bolt/weld a bracket to the frame tap over to the tank hole..

Make sure the tank is not to far forward, it should sit on all three lugs very easily, but you will have to cut off the center rear lug on the frame first as this fouls on the tank and stops it coming back. Also as you will see on the pics, i did not use all the original tank mounting holes, i just redrilled where needed. The Marathon, well a bit sad really with the tragic news of Clare Squires, a local girl to us, but yes a fantastic day as always. This year was my run slow and enjoy it year, as i'm already in next year with my qualifying time from last year 3 hours 12 mins,(covers you for two years), so next year its my head down, eyes out, flat out, year again. hi Stevie, well done with the Marathon, it was very sad about Clare Squires.
Also thanks for the advice, i have removed the tank today and cut of the extra lug. I spent the rest of the time cutting the fiberglass rear cover to fit.
What size of right angle hose did you buy? I purchased a 51mm as that was the internal diamater of the old one. It feel it is a little to easy to get on and it looks like it will bunch up when a clamp is tightened onto it... i was thinking of changing it for a 48mm?

Hi Samuelt, you need to get 90 degree 45mm internal, this is the link from my purchase off ebay. Item picture Blue Silicone Fuel & Oil Hose Elbow 90 Degree 45mm (270767811644)
Cost £12 delivered next day, fits straight on and you need to put the shorter of the two ends on the tank, and cut the other end to suit the height of your hood after fitting the rest of the filler to it. Steve

Hi Samuelt, trying to get home early to have a go, but looks like it will be sat. I am toiling with an idea though! as you look at the mx5 flap it has presented me with a choice, you can either pu a block inside and then screw the flap to that or screw directly through the grp just behind the drivers head rest. How you going with yours, not to many replies on this so not sure if we're the only one's doing it. But will post the cut by cut pics at weekend or before, work permitting. Steve

Steve Steve you and samuelt might be the only ones doing this at the moment but you have given inspiration to many more no doubt. I for one, fortunately I still have my original mx5 body, have cut out the full filler flap unit and top part of the rear wing so that I can then just fiberglass the the original unit to the GRP cover and then re screw the filler pipe using the 4 original screws. Is this not what you are doing as you mentioned you might screw the flap through the grp or to a block.?? I look forward to seeing the photos of the complete setup.
