This looks like an excellent solution and I'll definitely give it a go when I'm at this stage (hopefully a couple of weeks or so). Further to a question above which I don't think was quite answered, how easy would it be to finish this off with an after-market filler (this sort of thing: tinyurl.com/cmna7a6 give or take the price!)? I haven't quite understood all the technicalities of this method yet, but they'll no doubt become clear when I'm actually looking at the real thing.

Hi Adam, sorry if my answer did not come across to well, the only problem you may face is that the hood has a radius on it so a flat after market filler may not seat on this. I havn't really gone any further than original mx5 parts which come with the donor, after all this is a one donor car. There may be loads of ways to find a full tank, but this has to be the most cost effective, and cheapest...£8.85.. for the silicon bend. John...

Hi Stevie, back in Perth on Sunday when I have recovered (runing Edinburgh rock 'n' roll half marathon after a week stuffing my face on Italy.) I plan to do this asap, as I need to tidy up my front and rear sections of my fuel lines. I will update you on my progress.

Thanks, that explains it perfectly. I think the only thing I'm unclear on now is how the MX-5 filler flap attaches to the car.

Quite an easy one that, pu or fibreglass a block to the inside of the hood and screw the flap hinge to it, the hinge needs to be at the forward end as on the mx5.

Very nice work.. I have now put my release cable etc in the pile of items to keep.. Any one else got any ideas like this for other modifications that improve an already great little car.

Hi Andy, its not quite that simple, with the tank in its original position, the gap between the hood and top of tank is about 10mm to 15mm. this is because you have to put it on 25mm to 30mm spacers because it otherwise hits the subframe and diff housing. This means you cant run a 52mm filler pipe anywhere in that space. By turning the tank around as in the pics it allows the part of the tank that causes this problem to then drop into the void behind the said subframe. But this then means that the filler has changed position and is now below the highest part of the hood, this means with a little fabrication we can all get a full tank of fuel and still use mx5 donor parts. Has anyone moved the filler port to the top of the tank (blocking off were it is now) and using a flip flap in center of rear deck??

Someone with a green Exocet (sspogman maybe?) re-routed their filler cap to the middle of the rear deck. Not sure how though. I would have assumed with rubber hose to the existing hole.
Would be a bit of work to plug the existing hole and make a new one surely...?

I think ssproggman used the original hole in center of tank where the fuel return vent is, not sure how he sealed the original filler, maybe just put the old cutdown pipe and cap on it. He did have a bit of manufacturing to do but it worked ok, he also put a black line down the center where the filler was to blend it in. Very sad what happened next, hope he's ok, he's gone a little quiet. Steve
