Hubs on their way from NZ. Changed the top upright bush mounting brackets. This is the one that was in place and you would hope that the bolt thread reaches a fair way inboard; well it doesn't. I pinched the ones from my Sonic 7 project. Here is a comparison: Added to the stripped last few threads the extra 2 cm is reassuring. Now the thread is only 1 cm from the whole length of the tube. Repeated on both sides. Had to run a "tap' through to get passenger side to fit. That was the one with the stripped thread section. Much happier. Bonus: the required bolt length on the Sonic is about 2 cm less. I put the Rocket ones onto the Sonic and they are flush with the rear of the housing. This was also important as I still had some camber adjustment for the alignment of the Rocket as the wheel was not quite vertical. I can do that with a bit more confidence. Just in case you think I was cutting the Sonic thread to short, this picture shows how much spare thread I had for the Sonic. Than means that even at two cm shorter, there is almost complete thread depth achieved. nothing compromised.

hubs have arrived... Thanks to kiwicanfly. pleasure doing business with you. Added some paint to a few of the bits. These are the retaining plates. had to trim down the bolts a bit as there is only 6 mm clearance between the back of the hub bolts and the housing. A little clean up and paint before bearings etc are added. Bearing housing. Kiwi's hubs made in Germany... Locktite added to these bolts and nuts and installed. Even chucked a bit of paint on the wishbones... well sprayed the bits that I could see. Hubs about to get a dry-Ice cooling and pressed in tomorrow morning. Update coming soon.

bought a lathe... went looking at an unfinished clubbie and well you know how it is! But it doesn't quite look this nice yet... $500 AUS bargain... well as long as I can get it to work. Now I can do my own bearing hubs for the sonic... and I can make up some hub spacers for the Sonic.

Broom broom! Up and driving again. Thanks to kiwicanfly. And my mate with a lathe and his Westfield. Well we really only needed the lathe and his press, but he does have a Westfield. I am back on the road. Permit for 48 hours. Then make a booking with the engineer. Then do the paperwork… and then over the pits.
i used dry ice to cool the hub down and it pressed in nicely. All is back together, and I have driven for 50 minutes. Did manage to have the exhaust pipe join after the cat drop off. I will get a better clamp.
have a 2 day permit to do all the things I need to do. Then I will ring the engineer and get back to chasing a licence.

next quest is regaining the confidence of reliability, if that exists. back in place as stated. upper bolt not in by the way... here is the retaining plate bolted in and the mount of clearance. About two mm. Now that the hubs do not move around that seems to be plenty! Post permit drive was fine. snuck in a few hours of driving. seems to be better than ever. now planning on going back over many of the things that I have overlooked. especially the Locktighting a few bolts. Everything on the NEW rear uprights was lock tighted and torqued. Need to re-visit the front end units and do the same. Will also re-tie some of my wiring harness section as they have been shifted and moved around a bit recently whilst trying to fix other things. Basically, I am trying to nit-pick what will annoy DOTT and the engineer as that is next on my plan. More to come: p.s. the car goes well at the moment. I still can not get over how small a gap in the traffic is required to actually move on to a main road.

Update: have had a couple of permits; finding it difficult to get the engineer to confirm a date. Car has been running quite well. Getting hotter here in WA so it will test my cowling that I put around the radiator. All air that goes through the hole in the grille passes into the radiator. not sure if I said I got distracted. Bought a lathe. An old one but a good one. 1968 build. now cleaned and in the shed. Just need a sparkey to join 4 wires.

Good day perthwa
Happy Turning. Those lathes have a good reputation. I imagine it took some moving.

DOT update. Eventually I got an appointment with the engineer. Now waiting for him to do report and submit to DOT. I have adjusted the springs a bit more, there is now 14 cm rear clearance and 12 cm on the front. I am going to pull the accelerator cable out as it gets stuck every time a hot engine cools down. Something is not appreciating the heat from the exhaust. This is a pain but 8 will be happier once it is fixed. Also have to replace a headlight unit. Sealed beam… as it is broken.

What is the CNC?

More of a Men’s Shed for myself , a newly retired mate who owns the CNC and the members of the Sports Car Builders club of WA, that I am secretary of. Already done a dash unit for a clubbie, replacement bolt for my lathe, machined flat another members welded Al intake manifold. Going well. Not the rocket... here is the Sonic and the mills. Lathe is on the left.
