Hello,
After running the engine for around 20/30 mins at idle, the temperature goes well above halfway and the fan does not kick in. I have a 1.8 mk2 and have only found one temperature sensor, at the back of the engine. After unplugging this, the temp gauge on the dash stopped working, so this must be for this. I am unable to find where the sensor is for the rad fan on the engine. The fan works, it is new and I tested it before I put it in the car.
Any suggestions would be very helpful
Thanks

you should have 2 sensors on or near the thermostat housing depending on engine age.

Check cooling fan relay - right rear of engine compartment: BLU/YEL wire hot at all times from 30A fuse in engine compartment fuse box BLK/WHT wire hot with key on - engine fuse YEL wire - power to cooling fan RED/GRN wire - grounded by ECM to energise relay

Thank you both very much for your answers, it looks like I only have one sensor with three pins that does both temp gauge and fan switch instead two sensors with 2 and 1 pins respectively as shown in the photo above.
I will check the relay over the weekend.
Thanks again

The picture above shows 3 different types, the 3 terminal unit being the one used on MK2 donors. That said it is always best to check the donor for faults before the car is stripped. It is not likely that a sensor has failed during the transplant so I assume you either had a fault on the donor or an electrical gremlin has crept in during transferring components, perhaps the obvious being and earth issue.

Didn't realise it had 2 sensors! Cheers

You're right, it doesn't look like the sensor has failed as it looks like I accidentally snipped the wire that goes into the relay instead as there is no power on the Blue/Yellow wire (thank you Snowbird for this info!). I can hear the relay ticking when powering it, so doesn't seem to be any issue in the relay. Just need to find the wire again and connect it back up.
Stupid mistake, thanks for all the info!

Hello, Rad fan issue is now fixed - thanks for the help. Is having locktite on the brake callipers bolts a requirement for the IVA? I can’t see it anywhere in the guide and it isn’t standard practice when replacing disks/pads, but everyone seems to word it on these forums like it’s essential.
I have removed the 'Airbag' logo off the original steering wheel and removed the explosive, but kept the deflated air bag inside. Is this acceptable to IVA as it is impossible for the air bag to inflate?
Many thanks

Many thanks I use locktite just to be safe and then on the main bolts and nuts I use a marker paint pen so I can tell what becomes loose. It's best if you can replace stuff for new when you strip the donor down, water pump, idle pulley, timing belt, alternator belt, discs and pads and such like, maybe drop links, steering ball joints, all the bushes and check the alternator too. Re airbag - I've done the same and believe that it will pass IVA but if not the I'll just do some trickery with the centre part and it'll not be obvious it had airbags, so not relevant for IVA
