Kenyon's MeV Exocet thread

Hi guys,

So I have just started on what I intend to be the slow progression on my dream.

I currently have a 1.8 Mk2 (nb) mx5. Originally I brought this as a second car for track days. It was just as I fitted the cage the I stumbled across the Exocet. It was love at first sight !

I broke the news to the wife (who rolled her eyes) and started dismantling what I had already built.

Which pretty much takes me to where I am now.

My programmer for this project is circa 3 years. I know a long time but I want to do it right and be realistic. At the moment I get about two hours a week to work on it so expect slow progress.

In that time I want to fully strip the skate (sand blast, powder coat and new poly bushes) and replace anything that requires replacing to give a good solid starting point.
Re build the engine with fully forged internals (money permitting) and uprate what I can on the way up.

Then it's time to get the Exocet built and running.
A few checks and a couple runs and a service then off to become fully road legal.

Once it is all registered etc that's when it'll get interesting looking to bolt on a few little upgrades and hopefully be running circa 320 bhp.

It's a long road ahead but I'm really looking forwards to it!!

I always thought it would be an easy life as a stripper but I was wrong, still going !! Wings bumpers and lights off today. ( front and back )
Next back to the loom and empty all fluids!

So today thought I'd head out get some of the fluids out of the car and strip a little more of the loom. Just bits and bobs.


So drained all the coolant and found out she's a squirter made a real mess 🤔😂
Drained the oil as well.

Just petrol break and clutch to do 😄.

Hey I'm having fun that's the main bit right?👍🏼

Nearly there with the loom taking so long because I am labelling literally everything, when it comes to re installing it should hopefully make life easier.



Also my new toy arrived today !!


It is amazing absolutely ripped the rear hub but off !! Anyone who has had to take it off before knows what a nightmare it is to do. For any one that hasn't I am 16 and half stone and I was bouncing on the end of a 750mm breaker bar with no results. This took 2 seconds and it was off AMAZING. . If by some miracle I finish this project and your using this as reference you defiantly have to buy an electric impact wrench.

Good progress.  I got the same Clarke Impact Wrench, but even that struggled on some of my nuts, plus you can't get it in to some of the 14 (actually 16) nuts holding the body!  I also had to buy a 32mm for the front and 29mm for the rear hubs.

Thanks guys hoping it does go well, will defiantly be a slow project as I've just jumped in to it without saving. It'll go to month by month progress shortly.
I know what you mean about not being able to get the impact in to all areas but I've got a good breaker bar and some scaffold if I need it 😂

So thought I would take a cheeky hour out I. The garage.

Finish stripping wires in cab.

What happened . .. . Just about built my new toy. why so many parts for something so simple. 😒Also said it was space saving 🤔 me thinks not its almost the size of the car 😂😂




Meh Mrs is working tomorrow so if I can get the little lad to bed at a reasonable time might spend a couple hours on the beautiful beast.

Also guys thinking of changing my plans and re building the engine after its built. How easy would it be to squeeze the engine out of that Exocet engine bay ??

I've got the same hoist (I can see a pattern here and found difficulty getting far enough under the donor when the body was on, as the castors are quite large and the legs are pretty deep. Check your clearance first.

Impact gun apart, the breaker bar is your best friend on the rear down. I bought the Clarke angle grindder, but have probably used a junior hacksaw more!

I've got a 750mm breaker so hopefully that'll come in some use. Already have an angle grinder as well, also have a dremel which is a awesome tool. Hopefully have all I need now but time will tell !


Also still after an answer is their enough room to realistically pull the engine out of the Exocet ? Or do I just bit the bullet and do the engine re build when it is just sat on the skate ??

Might have to upgrade my multi tool to a Dremmel. A circular cutting tool might be good for fitting the panels and bodywork

We have had engine out of our mevster a few times so it should be possible I think I have some posts on my blog if you take a look
