No progress because I was lucky enough to spend the last 2 days playing in the mud with Ken Hill + Jason Uribe + others. I'm thinking I need an offroad Exo. That might be #2 build.

Hmm .. so today I hooked up my donor tail lights to make sure everything is fine before diving into the trailer relay wiring. Noticed that one bulb in the tail light was always on ( even with key out of the ignition ) until I pulled the battery. Googled it real quick and saw this thread which suggest I need to sort out my brakes. Did you have this issue as well Sean ?

That's not a thing I recall happening with mine, to be honest.

Thanks Sean. Couple things I found out today. My brake kit needs 12MM spacers to work with my JNC 003 +0 wheels. That's a bit too much for my taste. Anyone want a radial brake kit for $650 + shipping ? It's $855 directly from V8Roadster. Also the grape vine is spinning tales of the SB100 process changing in 2017. So I prepped all my paperwork tonight to go to the DMV this week to get things started and get my SB number early. Unfortunately Los Gatos DMV where so many have had good luck is booked up until Jan 3. I got an apt anyways just in case but will try to go this Thurs. Fingers crossed. Re: Statement of Fact Form ( REG256 ) Rumm said this form was not needed. Can anyone confirm that ? I'm looking at that form now and don't see anything applicable to fill out. Re: Application for Title ( REG343 ) Section 4 ask for odometer info. Do I put donor's mileage in here ?

Progress ... my short shifter kit came in. Measured the shaft of the new shifter vs the old and its roughly a 4mm reduction in diameter ( 23.71mm vs 27.53mm ). If all else was the same, this reduction should give me just under 2mm more of gap compared to before. However, once installed, the throw was much shorter. Even close to the base, where there's not that much movement, it dramatically reduced the travel. Now when I'm in 1st 3rd or 5th, I still have about a 9.54mm gap. Not bad at all. No need to cut or trim that piece now. Thnx MiataRoadster. Throwing this old picture back on here for comparison purposes. Off to the DMV tomorrow before the supposed rule change in 2017 .. fingers crossed.

WOOOOOO!!!! 99 day temp operating permit !! Thanks Los Gatos DMV .. Anyone else going to Los Gatos DMV, make sure you stop by after everything is done to get a Super Hero sandwich from the Los Gatos Smokehouse 2 minutes away because you WILL feel like a super hero leaving the DMV with the temp permit in hand.

I have no idea. They just gave it to me. I assumed it was to GET me to brake / light and all my other appointments .. but now I'm curious if I get to skip brake / lights .. LOL. There was a bit of confusion though at DMV. They kept asking if I have the car THERE for them to inspect. Finally when they saw the MSO, they seemed to accept it and stopped asking. Then the lady went to call Sacramento. Got me a sequence number, and confirmed the rule changes in 2017. Supposedly it lets you skip the smog referee with the new rules. She didn't go into much details. Comparing now my receipt paperwork to yours .. its slightly different. No mention of brake / light inspection ... Yours .. Mine .. Seems I'm instructed to go directly to CHP.

Also, I assume you're able to drive it around right after you get your temp operating tag ? Reading on the tag it said I also need a department receipt as well as a confirmation letter. I don't think I have either of those. Time to go back to DMV ?
Did you insure it yet or does it get covered by your existing car insurance ?

Since they've not required it you don't have to have that inspection done. Lucky you! (I mean that completely jealously since getting the brake and light done on my Exocet was such a pain in the butt! )

Well I'm hoping that's the case but now I'm worried maybe they screwed up something else in the registration. Just noticed that my make says Exomotive and not SPCN anywhere in my paperwork.
Year was left blank but they did mark down 'year first sold' as 2016.

So I actually went back to the DMV to ask about the 'issue' with my paperwork. I didn't volunteer the brake & light inspection but simply asked what my next steps are, and if the two steps mentioned in my paperwork ( CHP & BAR ) are all that I needed to complete SB100. The manager at the DMV looked over the paperwork again and told me .. YUP! In my excitement, I forgot all about the SPCN make issue. Urg. After I got home, I digging some more online and found this in the ' SB100 bible' that Steadfast posted. I'm a bit less anxious now. Still need another DMV visit for that SPCN issue though.

Looking at non DOT head light setup now .. any reason these would not be a good idea on the street ?

Finally added coolant today and let it run a bit longer ( about 30s vs 7-8s before ).
And .. uh-oh. After a few seconds, the idle started jumping all over the place then rising steadily, often to somewhere between 2-3k RPM and dies. Doesn't idle long enough to get the block warm.
Before recording this video, I already removed the throttle cable in case it was too tight and opening the throttle accidentally. Issue still persist.
Check engine light stays solid. Seems I have oil pressure. Not sure what that squeak is at the start of the video. It didn't happen previously.
Charging battery now before doing more testing but figure I should post up and ask in case there's something obvious I'm missing.
Also I know for sure I have gas. Added 4 gallons the other day before first start and have only started it up a couple times since. Have not seen any leaks so not sure why its reading empty right now.
