Any ideas what to do with the up/down knob that tilts the lights when mx5 was overloaded? Cut it out of loom?


I think this was attached to the end of the pedal assembly under the dash but no idea what it does?

The little black box is an immobiliser unit. You'll want to hang on to that.

From what I've read, the black box is paired to the ECU, there's a receiver ring around the ignition barrel that picks up the transponder signal from the key to go with this.

Is that on an aftermarket alarm?
Don't think the mk2 had an alarm as standard, but could be wrong.
I'm hoping there's not 2 systems in here or I'm stuffed

I don't think it's an alarm, just an immobiliser. I know with my mx5 I had to wait a second for it to detect the key before I could get it to fire. My donors also a mk2.

Hi,
Anyone able to ping me a couple of pictures of the mx5 as it was with its power steering bottle and pipes and after the removal of power steering please?
I forgot to ask the owners at Stoneleigh and the race car and v6 demo didn't have the loop pipe (that i noticed)

If you are talking about the loop tube in front of the radiator the They did away with it around 1994.. 1999 did not have one..

Yes the black box is a Lucas immobiliser. Don't remove, its paired with the ECU and transponder in the key. Without anyone of these (or the transponder sensor on the ignition barrel) the car wont start and I don't think it can be easily bypassed.

You will also have a amber coloured key symbol within the 4 warning lights in the centre of the dash. As eulaca says, this is illuminated when you try to start the car until the immobiliser, transponder and ECU pair. It then goes off when the car starts. Only other option if removed IMO would be a stand alone ECU.

These units was fitted to late Mk1's and earlier Mk2's.

That's the tube i mean. I can't even google a decent image of the pipes and connections to the power steering resevoir in an mx5 to work out how I'm going to sort mine out.

I'm still 50/50 on keeping it as it will be more usable around town, parking and so on.

I was mistaken on the newer MX5s there is a loop..

Move down to page 4 there is a pic of fluid flow. Out of rack to loop,to res, back to the pump..
The loop just mounts in front of the radiator in the air flow..
For around town driving and not all out racing I would keep the PS..

Hi all, I,ve had some really bad luck and lost all my notes on the connections in the wiring loom.
I've tried to connect as much as I can back on and strip out a wire at a time but I (sorry - WE) have a lot that we can no longer identify.

This one is just past the diagnostic box and looks to be unused 
White block has wires:    light green, blue with white stripe, black, blue with yellow stripe
Black block has wires:     black with brown stripe, blue, black with blue stripe, pink



This one is down by the drivers side front light connections
black wire and light green with black stripe wire




This one stupidly is from the charcoal canister but i just can't find where it goes





Next one is near the back end of the centre console 
orange wire and grey wire





Next one (anyone else bored yet - I spent all day on these today  is at the rear near the 2 number plate lights
black, blue with red stripe, grey with black stripe




This one is also right at the rear and isn't the lights or fuel connections
block has:  black wire, black with brown stripe wire, black with white stripe wire
loose wires are brown with white stripe and a grey





This one is near the bulkhead and the black and yellow wire seems to go to the diagnostic box (the cut off wires I know weren't needed as were from either the heater or stereo as I knew I didn't need them so hacked off the ends)
brown with white stripe, black with yellow stripe, grey




This one is also I am only left with the green, brown, orange and grey wires (its near the ecu)
orange, brown with white stripe, light green




this one has a pink and a red wire (the blue is already gone) but they connect into another block about a foot away
pink, red with white stripe and black with blue stripe




This one is is the last of the wiring i can't identify - centre console area the blue and the single wires.
I know the block goes to the electric windows and i think the sheath covered white with orange stripe is the handbrake
Blue with yellow stripe



Sorry there are a lot, losing our notes was really hard and we turned the place upside down.

Hard to tell with out seeing wire colors and layout in connector..
Pic 2 think for AC coolant fan if LG/B and B wires
Pic3 is vent hose for the charcoal canister it when into the frame.
Last pic is hand brake wire looks like it is broke off the switch..
really need pic of color of wires
