Hello form the States, I've been thinking about building a Mevabusa kit. Most likely get the "kit in a box" from Doveracing so i don't have to go searching for things besides the motor. I've been reading up on many builds and found that. 1. It's been years on o ne build I've seen online 2. No one updates the build thread to give an idea on how long this is taking them. My goal is to start around Nov or Dec and be done in the spring, April, May. I also noticed there still isn't any kit instructions. I'm great at following instructions... Replacing the motor out of my 99 Miata right now. I am unsure if I could do this with out the book though. Thus the sadness of reason number 2 above, the lack up build thread updates and instructions for the kit. I've head the Tr1ke instructions are close.. well until you get to the back that is. Is there a copy of the install instructions for this online? What are the gear shifting options for this? I've road bikes about 10 years ago, so I'm familiar with the bike shifting, but how does this translate to the car? Thanks so much for your time and comments.

Just build the kit as you want it, there's no need to copy what others have done.
The tR1ke is the same from forward of the roll bar and the motor fits in the same part of the kit.

Not trying to copy.. just wanted to see what issue at hand may come up that's not in the build sheet. Is there a tR1ke instructions online?

I built a Rocket from an RTR Kit in a box, we'll in my case most of a KIB but that is another story.
I had never built a car before and have minimal experience with car maintenance, never even changed he oil before! However I am a toolmaker by trade so have hands on training.
Mine is one of the longest builds, well apart from Madeye that is. No reason except I enjoy tinkering and fiddling and am in no rush.
Going KIB saves the searching problem as you say plus, if it is all there, answers a lot of questions because IF it is all there then there should be nothing left afterwards and compatibility issues are eliminated. However do ensure everything is included as it should be, get a list of inclusions and check what the part specifications are and change any that you think could be better, shinier or quicker.
As it all falls into place if you do have questions you can ask them at that point, it is highly likely that problems you encounter will be able to be answered by members from any build, more so because you are not building on a specific base such as the MX5.
As for time, don't even think about it, the most I important point is building to a level you are happy with, there are no prizes for speed. It is the journey not the destination that counts. If you just want the car it is cheaper to buy.
Enjoy the ride.

THanks for the input.
My 4 month limit I would put on myself is so I can get it to the track in the spring/summer of the following season. I work from home M-F away from the house one or two days a week. IMO, this could give me many hours a day to work on the build.
I would love to buy one built already, but I haven't even seen one in the states yet. Nor anyone to purchase.
I just blew up the motor in my MX5 miata and thought about the Exocet build, but IMO, the MEVabusa is more up my style.

Found a kit from www.doveracing.com here in the states. This totals $27,052 (17000 GBP)(with 2006 Hyabusa donor) or $21,552 (without donor). (13571 GBP) Only down fall at the moment is the kit was ordered by someone else that backed out and the frame is already powder coated gold. I really wanted black or silver. To change the color will be another 500 USD or 315 GBP. Doesn't seem like much but when you add it to the total kit cost .... it is a bit much.

To change the color will be another 500 USD or 315 GBP. Not sure how the total price stacks up but if that is in line with your expectations and it is just the colour (note correct spelling of colour ) change cost that is bothering you then remember that your cheque book is a very strong bargaining tool. I doubt that there are many in the market for this particular kit, they wont be queing up so that is dead money to Mr. Dove. "I'll write you a cheque right now" would be a very strong motivator to a supplier to change the colour to get the sale. I would also be surprised if the original customer did not pay a deposit on the kit so Dove wont be loosing out IF they sell it. RTR were charging UKP1000 just to accept an order and book a chassis build slot, this was non-refundable. Also their cost of coating will be a lot less than the price YOU would ordinarily be charged.

Very true on the price. And cash speaks louder than credit... So he might powder coat it and give a discount. Thoughts on gold frame to begin with?

Think I may pay the extra and have him powder coat it black. That's what my heart is set on and I don't think I'll be happy with gold...

I thought "we" were going wave cash at him to throw in the re-coat for free or at the very lost "cost" which will probably be half of what you were told.

My thoughts are... 25k cash and re-coat for free.

I have someone coming up on Sunday to pick up the miata. Dave at Dove Racing is holding the kit for me until Wednesday.
