With OEM rings there is a R on the top and 2nd ring it must be in top side. The 2nd ring must be install with the scraper facing down. Install the oil ring spacer wiggly part with the ends of it up.. Upper and lower oil ring rail (smooth) are the same with no top/bottom.. Rails set into a tang in spacer part not all the way to the back of the grove. oil good and must be able to turn both ways.. Did you scrape/clean each ring grove out before installing new rings.. What is the end gap of the rings?? top 0.006>0.011 2nd 0.012>0.017 oil rail 0.008>0.027 Did you put new valve seals in?? You are using dino oil 30 HD for break in right not synthetic right..

Ah yes, there was a dot on our rings indicating they are to be facing up. We made sure of that.

Gwnwar,
I will have to check the ring gaps later but we were within spec when putting them in and had to file a little as well. I JUST had the head rebuilt and valve seals were done at that time. (Not to mention you wouldnt see that amount of smoke with valve seals leaking). Also yes, DINO oil. I will have a new update ready at the end of the weekend

What was your break in procedure for this engine?

I think it started smoking from the moment it was started the very first time.

Hello, Quick update. Engine has been pulled, disassembled, pulled rings and replaced them with some brand new SEALED POWER E551KC piston rings. As of yesterday the engine is fully reassembled and just needs to have flywheel and clutch added back on and then it's back in the Exocet she goes.

Alrighty everyone! Large update: Exocet engine is back in, all pinned up, brakes are done, I've gone through my "safety checklist" which is essentially going through with my torque wrench and re checking the specs of everything. I've done a lot of doughnuts in the dirt backroad near my house. Next step is to go to DMV and pay them $$ and start my reg process! Time to hit the road
