That's annoying! Thanks for the build thread though. I'm also looking to replace a heavy expensive car with a cheaper (fixed and consumable) car for track weekends, thought about the Miata, found FM, saw the Exocet link, and now I'm here...
Out of curiosity, would you recommend getting the Miata sorted (suspension, etc) then swapping the frame/body to the Exocet, or is it easier just to bite the bullet and never really have an interim Miata?
Thanks again!

IMO the suspension you should do after the swap. The car is so much lighter, might as well see how your current set up performs, then make a decision. Besides, given all the room on the exocet, swapping the springs and such won't be a huge deal.
If your engine has check engine lights that won't be fixed by the change over, get those taken care of now, or that's how i would have done it. Also have the mechanic drain the AC before making the switch.
Have fun and good luck!

rjstanford, I wish I had more time to sort out a few maintenance things on the donor before the build. If you have the space the easiest time to work on it will be when you have the body pulled and easy access to everything on the rollerskate. Due to my borrowed single garage bay I didn't have time to prep the frame and clean up the donor parts. I'm learning upgraded sway bars have been complete overkill, and increasingly feeling that way about the stiff springs I have on there. It will be a while before I consider the car fully sorted, but that said, it is the most fun car I've ever driven.
