Does the powder coating inside the bushing holders make it harder to insert new bushings? No idea. I haven't had time to install the bushings yet. I have been super busy for the last couple of weeks.

Tires came in yesterday. They have some serious warning stickers on them about using, mounting, or storing them in the cold. Looks like its going to me next Monday before the temperatures around here will be warm enough to get these mounted. My wife is very understanding but I am pretty sure she will draw the line at having tires in the house.

Just tell her they are Christmas gifts, wrap them in some nice paper and bring them indoors!

Have you looked into what it is going to take to register the Exocet in Alabama? I am trying to decide if it would be easier to get a good title car to simplify the registration or jump on one of the cheap salvage cars I have found that may not have a title but could get a bill of sale for the entire drivetrain in one shot.

I had the donor registered and insured for a few months before i took it apart. I am pretty sure I could get away with just swapping over the plates but I am going to try to get it registered as an Exocet. I may need a re-builders licence (some paperwork and a 10,000 bond) but I am going to give it a shot with out that. There is very little info on kit cars in Alabama. It does say that I will have to have a windshield wiper, but makes no mention of actually needing to have a windshield. So we will see what happens. The DMV here has been very helpful and quick so far.

The DMV here has been very helpful and quick so far. I have a email out to the State now. I have a old document from the SEMA network of what has to be done to register the car with a "ASSEMBLED" title. From that document it does not mention anything about what the inspection is looking for. I have not seen anything about requireing a windshield or wipers.

JIDiesel pointed me to this page: Alabama Other Types Of VehiclesHere is the relevent section: Custom-Built Cars If you have a custom-built car in Alabama, you will need to follow a slightly different process to register your car with the DMV. The documents you'll need depend on the age of your kit or chassis. You'll need to submit the following to your local AL DMV office: A completed Application for Inspection of a Salvage Vehicle and Affirmation Supporting Salvage Certificate (Form INV 26-15E). Manufacturer's certificate of origin (certified), if you used a new kit. A registration receipt for the vehicle the chassis/frame came from OR a completed bill of sale (must include the previous vehicle's vehicle identification number), if your chassis or frame is from 1974 or earlier. The previous vehicle's certificate of title transferred to you, from which the chassis originated, if it is from 1975 or later. A bill of sale for each major component of your car that was purchased separately. Be sure to include the trade name and serial number for each part. An affidavit from whoever assembled the vehicle. Must list everything that was done to the car to have it assembled. Must certify that the car is in full working condition. Must be notarized. Payment for the following fees: Inspection: $75. Title certificate: $15. NOTE: Your car will need to pass an inspection before it will be registered. Of course it has no mention of what the inspection will inspect.

Quick question ... this goes back in your build a bit, so please bear with me. How did you remove the dust shields from the rear upright assemblies? From what I see in your pics, it looks like you were able to remove them before you even pressed out the rear axles from the hubs? Reason I ask is that my rear 'refurb' is completely done and the rear subframe and all components are re-assembled, but I still have the rear dust shields in place. I am now speculating (not confirmed yet) that the dust shields need to be removed to install the fender stays. I'd LOVE to be able to remove the shields without having to do a complete back end tear down (again).
Thanks in advance !!!

I used an air hammer to get them loose, then cut them off. I cut through the dust shield with some tin snips and then used a set of vice grips to bend the metal to make the hole big enough to slide them off.
