I took the 205/15-15 Nitto NT01s and 15x8 Tracklite Holeshots to a local tire place todayto get them mounted. The owner wanted to take a look at them before he gave me a price. He balked at the NT01s, "those aren't for the street." "Nope" I said "racecar" "Oh Ok no problem, we will use stick on weights and short valve stems" he said. "Great how much will it cost me?" "50-80 bucks depending on how long it takes" he says.
Ok so I thought that was a bit high but I was there and he seemed like he would get it done. Two hours later he calls and says that the rims wont accept steel valve stems and you have to have steel valve stems or they won't let you on the tack and the tires will never hold air anyway because the rims are too wide. I didn't want to argue with him because I didn't think it would accomplish anything so I simply went and picked up my tires and wheels. When I got there they hadn't even opened up the boxes. Now I am pretty sure there are at least a few people with 205/50-15s on 15x8 holeshots. So whats up with that? Anybody else have any problems?

Just got mine mounted today with the VSS that came with the wheels. Guy who did them gave me no issues doing but procrastinated doing for 3 weeks for some reason...

$20.00 + per tire is not out of the ordinary for mounting. A 205-50/R15 should be mounted on a rim width of 5.5"-7.5". A 225-45/R15 is what should be on the 8" wide rim. They might not have mounted them because of the size of the rim. Or the fact that race tires are a pain to do. I don't know about the steel valve stem rule. I have two aluminium stems on each of my rims, never had them questioned. Check with these guys about mounting your tires. Might be worth the drive. www.tdcperformance.net/

Ok fair enough. The 205 recommended size maxes out at 7.5. If he had used that as the argument I would have respected it but a random you have to have steel valve stems argument seems fishy. What track and class require steel stems? Does everybody at a HPDE have steel stems? I doubt it.
I had planed to call TDC if I was going turbo, to see if they preferred/had experience with the Hydra or the Megasquirt before I bought something. I am fairly sure that having it properly tuned is the key to power/reliability in a turbo.

My local tire guy was able to mount and balance my 205 BFG Rivals very easily to the 15x8 +0 Holeshot. $10/tire every time and wheels never get scratched. Sounds like you need a new tire guy lol.

Sounds like you need a new tire guy lol. Agreed. My shop charges $9 to mount a tire, but more importantly, they can do a precision alignment and are willing to dink around to get whatever specs I request. And when I bring it back a couple of weeks later, they'll check specs and bump an alignment spec or two a bit for a reduced fee. We re-aligned F & R toe about five times on my NC before it was just right. Suggest you look for whoever the local SCCA autocrossers use, they tend to be alignment fanatics and swap lots of tires.

Took my tires and wheels to a new place today and they mounted them right up with no problems. Mounted, balanced, and a valve stem for $20 a wheel, tax included. I think the other guy just over thought it.

Great news. NT01's look great on those rims.

I finally got a few minutes to work on the car today and I was able to install all of the suspension bushings and the ball joint boots. Next up are the diff bushings. I haven't done them yet becaus I keep thinking that I will find a reasonable deal on a Torsen but I think I am just going to go ahead and replace the seals and bushings and install the open diff I have. I am sure as soon as I do the perfect Torsen will pop up on craigslist.

What kind of Torsen are you looking for? I've got a 4.1 Type 1 I could likely be convinced to part with.
