Well the family and I ended up spending most of the afternoon at the local brewery, so no work on the car today. Tomorrow is the trip to Atlanta to pick up my chassis! Pictures to follow!

IC - your previous note on project cost to date made me sit down and put together my roll up to date / expected future expenditures. Bearing in mind my donor was a $250 acquisition, but was in need of a lot of maintenance items (~ 115k miles on a 23 year old car, with the last "owner" pounding the snot out of it), I'm still going to be in the $16k range when all is said and done. That is with a stock 1.6L powertrain, but with new wheels/tires, VMAXX suspension components, seats, etc.
Point being to others considering this build - it's probably possible to do a sub $10k build - but I think it'd be pretty hard to hold to that type of budget !!
BTW, spending the day at the local brewery with family is a PRETTY good substitute for a day of car work now an again !!!

Success! The drive to Atlanta went well and I made it there and back in one day. My chassis (#96) has the old trans tunnel and #98 has the new one. I don't know if I have the last of the old style of if #97 does. I am okay with the old style. It means I shouldn't have to modify my exhaust and I don't need wide seats. The frame is still on the trailer. I need to clean up the garage and make some room to move it inside tomorrow. I did open all the small boxes and take a look at the parts. Somehow one of the body mount brackets got lost and never made it back from powder coat so I have one raw steel one but Kevin is getting it redone next week. Sounds like the body work is 2 months out anyway so no big deal.

More goodies arrived today. Mishimoto NA Performance Radiator, Fan Shroud, and Silicone Hoses. K&N intake. The red is more candy apple than the safety red I am going for so it will probably take a trip to the powder coater with some other bits I am going to have done red.

I got the frame off the trailer and into the garage with the help of my Father-in-law who happened to stop by. Fitting the floors I found that the welds for the jack points were pretty big and were interfering with the floor fitment. Some time with the nibbler created some space for the floor: All four corners looked more or less like this. But a half hour later the floors were drilled and rivets installed temporarily. The tube of silicone I had was all dried up so I will have to pick some up tomorrow.

Oh good! I didn't know they installed jack points. I was day dreaming about my own setup.

Floors are on! Started with a small bead of aluminum color 100% silicone door and window sealer to keep vibrations down. Then I dropped the floors on and dropped in the rivets. Pneumatic rivet gun made it super quick. It took about 5 minutes to do all of the rivets on both sides. Done and done.

That rivet gun will come in handy!

Are you using anything fancy for drilling the holes? Been thinking about borrowing a portable magnetic base drill press from work.

Are you using anything fancy for drilling the holes? Been thinking about borrowing a portable magnetic base drill press from work. I wouldn't bother with a mag drill. I just used a new 3/16" Dewalt Pilot point bit in a 20v drill. It only took about 1/2 an hour to line up the floors, clamp them, and drill all the holes. I bent my drill bit a little on one hole about a third of the way through, when it grabbed funny, so I switched to a bit that had been used (abused?) and it didn't work at all, so I switched back to the wobbly bit.

That rivet gun will come in handy! I already had the rivet gun. I use it for assembling the kinetic wind sculptures I make. It is worth every penny if you ar dining more than about 3 rivets. This is the one I have.
