Thats pretty fancy looking fuel hose you have there Trident. Is it stamped high pressure on it? I will check which way round my hoses are when i get home as I have the cover off at the minute Scooby that would be great….. Am I correct in thinking that your donor was a Mk1 1.8 as well ? The hoses are marine high pressure fuel hose. I have checked with the inspectors at Southampton Test centre and they are happy with it. The ribbed effect is just a plastic sleeve, the same that is used in covering electrical wiring. I just added it to offer some protection to the rubber pipe against the edges of the tank and chassis etc. Probably a bit over kill but it will protect the pipe. Yes mines a 1.8 mk1 and the fuel line that goes thru the fuel filter on mine is the one closest to the fuel pump multiplug so yours would be the wrong way round. Mines the same setup as the pic below yours

Scooby cheers for your update.. Ok, I have finally sorted it after taking gwnwar's advice and pulled the pump unit from the tank. George, you are correct the cnter pipe is the feed and the one to the outside is the return. I'm no longer confused about this matter .... however I'm sure there will be plenty of other areas that I will be confused about in the coming months. I'd just like to thank every one that has helped regarding this and I hope other future builder find this info useful. Chris

Chris well done, and best to be sure. So I've checked all my photos and enhanced one to remove the shadow. Mine is defiantly different! The 'open' pipe ie return is my centre and the pipe with the pump is the outer. Now of course I have modified mine to make it shorter. This would alter the position of pump relative to the ends of the pipes, which of course I would have cut. So I can only image that outer pipe aligned better and hence I connected it up this way? Anyway no real problem as if I need to replace the pump/sender I would have to modify a new one. Sorry for any confusion caused.

Centre console now fitted along with the alloy gearbox tunnel & new rubber gaiter. All the infill panels on the console are ready to fit once I get the car started and the electrical wires in place. Talking of electrics I have now s tarted the job dreaded by most ….. Unfortunately i didn't label everything as well as I should have done a couple of years ago and some of the writing has worn off. Still managed to get nearly everything connected . All my lights work as they should except for the fact I don't have any dash lights, fuel pump is working but nothing from the starter motor when I go to start the car. The only wire I can't find a home for in the engine bay is this single wire with a female bullet point connector. It's Blue with a light green stripe. Any one got any ideas where is goes? Also what is this for and do I need to keep it? Cheers Chris

Chris.. the loose wire looks like the one for the power steering pressure switch..The other thing looks like a heatsink don't know were it goes.. What part of the car was it removed from..

George cheers for your fast reply …. I am very grateful and wish I had just half your knowledge.. My car never had power steering so thats probably why i can't find a home for it. The heatsink thing went here in my donor

It lowers the power to the headlight bulbs when the pop up motors are being driven, I assume this was so that you don't flash in the air so to speak.

Oracles were thought to be portals through which the gods spoke directly to people. Trident, you are, indeed, a chosen one. All hail.

My donor didn't have power steering so I think your right in your assumptions. When you looking to fire her up?

Thanks Stuart, I couldn't figure what it did, there was one on my '91 donor, I couldn't find a reference to it in the circuit diagrams, I stripped it out along with the retractor wiring, there is a relay associated with it, can't remember where it was located, I think with the LH under bonnet relay cluster. It has white, white/blue, red/white and black/yellow wires connected to it.

Not sure on an MX5 but my Focus Donor is FULL of these. I think they use a standard core loom for all/most models and add optional extras as and when the spec of the particular vehicle needs them.

A few more hours in the garage today before I go to work tonight and Rev counter now working working and dash lights now working too…. in fact everything ……… at the moment … seems to be working. A fair few wires have already been removed such as wipers, washer, headlight pop up, heater matrix connector, heater controls. A few mistakes and scratching of head along the way but nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of solder and insulating tape. The biggest headache was trying to work out why the dash lights worked and then after cutting a few more wires out they didn't work. All I will say is EARTH and I don't mean our planet. Oh and why would Mazda have a red wire as earth for the dash lights anyway!! Turns out the blank switch that I removed ( probably used as a dimmer switch for the dash lights on some cars …. but mine being a very basic model didn't have one other than a blank switch ) acted as a link plate for two earth connections. a red earth and a red wire with black stripe…as another earth…. clear as mud, but I understand now which is the most important part. All in all a very good day.
