Great job Matt. That wiring loom is starting to look very tidy indeed. How much have you managed to remove? I would like to do the same with my electrics when I get to that point, it will be good to see what you have left over after all the chopping. Keep on snipping and pruning! Garreth.

I'll take a pic of what gets removed. There is lots though, we were able to get hold of the electrical diagrams for my exact model from Mazda so that is helping with some of it.

So there has been a bit of progress. My mas scientist who works for me has had some time to spend on the car this week. I have cleaned up the standard rear muffler, it won't be staying but I'm not going to build a new system until its turbo'd at a later date. The ignition is all going to be push button so no need for this. The car is having a very elerabritfe security system wired in as part of the new harness so I'm not concerned about not having a key, The hazard button and the ignition buttons

Hi Matt, are you building the push button / security system yourself or buying an off the shelf system?

I am definitely heading the same way - hop in, press the button and go. I found what I thought was a real good unit on AliExpress, there are some real cheap ones but after further investigation I dismissed them. The unit I am keen on has two way rolling code so the key and unit stay in synch but change the code for max security. The outlet I found is the manufacturer for the Advanced Keys company in Canada, whilst they don't shout about that fact I noticed the similarities and asked how close they where to be told they are not only close but are in fact the same. www.advancedkeys.com/What do you reckon your unit will cost to build?

I have a buissness that does car alarms so everything is at cost. If you want remote start I can source you quality gear. As for the way mine works I can't say to much on a public forum without compromising security. Basically though.
Dis alarm alarm, get in car, swipe rfid tag. press button once, acc powers up, press again ignition livens up. Press start button car starts.
With the alarm I'm using I can add a drive card so if you don't have the drivers card on you the alarm will go nuts and shut the car down, plus the monitored GPS to.

I like the idea of the GPS as the biggest issue I see with these cars is the ease of removal to strip but I am not paranoid.
It appears in UK you need steering lock as security, mine will be removed so I can simply hop in and press go. Turning key to disengage steering lock then pressing a button kind takes the edge of the button system.
You mention swiping a tag, can you not just go straight to press button with tag in pocket? Swiping tag is almost like turning a key.
Also if tag drops out of pocket, which probably then end up on road, will system shut it down?

Been flat our at work so not much has been done lately, I have decided to get on with the turbo no instead of next winter though so I dug the turbo out of storage, its a Subaru VF37 twin scroll with hardly any use on it, I also have a inlet for the turbo that will increase the inlet size to go straight to the airflow meters or to a pod filter when I go to an aftermarket ecu and remove the airflow meter. I also got a fuel reg off a turbo subaru hopefully it will fit and do the trick.

Progress is slow but it is getting there, the wiring is almost all done, it needs the earths finished, the rear loom made and testing, the tracking and alarm is all fitted to. I also had some mail arrive from the good ol USA, funny thing, it comes accross the world in a couple days but our customs is so bad it takes another week to get to me. and today I loaded it on a trailer and took it down to the engineers to have the turbo fitted and intercooler setup!!
