Not got round to updating for a while so thought i better had or my build thread could end up being "trike delivered..... and here it is finished !!" Ive been so busy in the garage just doesn`t seem to be enough time to update aswell.
Anyway, heres a pile of pics of what has been happening over the last few weeks, Starting with the mess from using the fire extinguisher after a pile of magnesium, from machining the original ford steering wheel, caught fire on the garage floor and vice.
only needed a piece about the size of a 17mm socket from the ford wheel. Machined it all down to size with a drill in the vice.
Wish I`d cleared up the swarf straight away. just a couple of sparks from grinding a bit of steel and we had our own indoor firework show !
As you can see in this pic, the steering wheel is now fitted and we have made a start on the wiring loom. Luckily my son is quite electricaly minded, so he got volunteered for wiring duty !
Piece of board across the chassis makes a good tool and beer rest
wiring loom at rear with 9 X 7 core cables and 1 X 12 core to make sure. also shows the heat shield i made to protect wiring and hoses etc.
Front part of the wiring loom part done
Heres one of the wiring still needing a bit of sorting !
Bike fuel tank balanced on top of frame to run and confirm the wiring was ok at 1 in the morning new years day
Got a mate to do a bit of ally welding for me. fuel gauge sender plate fitted to tank and tank primed and painted
new tank for filling cooling system and venting from bottom hose etc.
new fuel swirl pot designed to fit in available space and house the original R1 fuel pump.
after trying 3 different indicator stalks without success I decided it would be better to use the bike controls, so a old pair of moped handlebars had to be sacrificed to make some mounts for them.
support for front of wiring loom made from 40mm waste pipe
heat shield in place along with low pressure fuel pump 3x2 is there to hold regulater and start relay untill bulkhead is ready to fit
made myself a sheet metal folder from some angle iron. It works well and I managed to fold up a centre console to house some of the switches and the fuel gauge. switch and button for reverse gear and wired through the neutal light so no chance of engaging reverse while trike is in gear.
Aluminium dash panel and wiring tray al in one.
Reverse gear fitted although I may take it off and modify the bracket as I had to use an extra 10mm spacer. Must be a slightly different width engine on the later R1. also exup servo mounted to chassis below.
We lifted the trike down on to the floor at one stage, and the rear end was almost touching the ground with two people onboard, so I ordered some rod ends and made an adjustable dog bone. Not very easy to see but it is there
klictronic solenoid mounted to chassis and gear linkage made and connected
Went for the easy option for a change. Rear numberplate holder is bolted straight to airbox with some big washers inside.
picture of breather tank in position but not bolted
fuel swirl pot in place below breather tank. again not the best photography !
Dash covered in carbon vinyl, wires from column switches now routed through inside the bars, steering column cover made from 75mm waste pipe and covered in carbon vinyl.
round bar in centre console is my handbrake with the handle removed
centre console covered and handrake handle polished and refitted
Thats about it for now. Im sure there are loads of little bits done that I have forgotten to mention. Im hoping to be done and ready for msva in about another month so I will try and find time to update.
