I tried my best not to get into a debate over it with him as that may have effected his attitude towards me and the rest of the test, numerous times i had to bite my tongue. But yeah i'll see what he says over the next few days, im hoping nothing more will come of it.
Just found another thing which has annoyed me a bit. The sound test was done at 4250 revs and i clearly stated in my application that max power comes in at 5500 revs meaning it should have been tested at 3650revs (2/3) Can someone please correct me if this max power figure is wrong. Im positive it would have come in under 99db at 3650revs.

Scrap that, i just noticed this bit...
'With the vehicle at normal operating temperature, run the engine at ¾ of its ‘maximum power’ speed, and note the sound level reading obtained.'
So that would be 4125revs......bugger!

My sound level was measured at around 3750. Came in at 97db and he just told me to jump in the car and give it a rev to check the noise levels.

It's been another weekend staring at the exocet sat in the garage dreaming of the day I can actually drive it! It's going on for 6 weeks since my paper work was sent off. The DVLA really are something else.

So about 4 weeks ago i finally had the Exocet on the road. The fun was short lived as the following day i was heading off to Portsmouth for 4 weeks for work. It's been bloody frustrating not being able to drive it after all the effort and hassle that's gone into the build and the registering of the thing. A more worrying thought was wondering what im now going to do with my spare time as most of it over the last 24 months has been spent on the car. I'm the sort of person that has to have some sort of project on the go despite the lack of free time i seem to get. Then it hit me, i'll do what i had planned to do from early on in the build......i'll turbo charge the bugger! After a deluge of questions asked in Tomaff's turbo thread and a fair bit of reading up on the various MX5 websites the choice was made, a pretty simple one really, a TD04l off an Impreza was going to be the turbo of choice. What followed was endless evenings on Ebay when finally one came up for auction. I messaged the seller asking for a buy it now price and he wanted £100. I felt this was a bit too much so I decided to chance the auction. Fast forward two days and i was the winning bidder, delivered to the door for £61. Happy days. I finally got home this morning after the 4 weeks away and right on time a nice parcel was delivered. What was inside that parcel?....... This beauty! I'll hopefully get the other hardware sorted (ordered) over the next few days and with a bit of luck will make a start on the turbo project within the next few weeks.

Finally had a decent day out in the car today. The sun was out, wasnt too cold and the car covered about 60 faultless miles (sort of). Confidence is building in regards to driving a car where you can hear every knock and squeak and where you feel very exposed. Had plenty of positive comments and interest shown except for a bunch of school kids who shouted and gestured wanker, which now seems to be the mandatory thing to do to anyone with a nice/different car these days. They also threw what looked like a mars bar at me. It could have been a snickers but i didnt care, i was having too much fun. Upon arriving back at home i gave the car a once over and noticed all around the front drivers side suspension area was brake fluid. No signs of any visible leaks and the fluid reservoir seemed at the same level it was prior to setting off earlier today. Plan of attack tomorrow is to take it for a drive with various brake line connections wrapped in cloth/plastic (or what ever i can find which will hopefully identify the area of leakage. A few pics from my day... ...my second home lately ..and the area covered in brake fluid

It looks like there is a droplet of fluid on the banjo fitting on the caliper.. did you use a brass washer on each side of the fitting..

Another turbo build. Good call on the td04. Got my new injectors today and ecu is ordered. I guess you are taking it off the road over winter?

This photo was taken just after i had loosened and checked the brass washers on the caliper fitting, so the droplet you can see there was due to that. Going to have another day fettling with it and hopefully find the leak.

The plan has always been to take it off the road for the winter but i think i'm going to struggle as the slightest bit of sunshine and a dry day and i'll be wanting to be out in it.

Made the most of the weather today but before setting off i tie wrapped various bits of the brake line with plastic in the hope of locating the mysterious leak. After a good few hours of driving about i had a look and.........everything covered in fluid again! However, none of unions or banjos seemed to be leaking which can only leave me with either the master cylinder or the servo. I havent looked into the workings of these in depth yet so cant make a final decision just yet. But WILL find this leak!!! Another package arrived this morning. In the form of something which ive wanted to have a reason to buy since i was 17! a nice pink.....dump valve! Managed to get it for peanuts off ebay. The custom turbo manifold, donwpipe and pipe work has also been ordered. Only down side is where i was expecting a few months off this xmas it now looks like it may just be the xmas week so it looks like the turbo charging is going to have to wait a bit longer to actually complete it.

Did you wrap the lines too. cant really see the master shooting forward while driving.. Have you cleaned all fluid off and dry. put a stick on brake pedal under pressure and wait to see were it leaks.. Are you sure it is brake fluid not coolant.. this will sound crazy but taste it..No don't drink it just a drop on your finger .. then try brake and coolant fluid.. is there anything on the side of the engine..
