Ahhh.... the wheels. That's a neverending story. I have been struggling for that from day one to make up my mind. On the red demobike Momocorse 7x17/4x108/et35/ hubhole 63.3 has been used (that took me a looong time to figure that one out!) and 205-40-17marangony all around (eastatic looks). RTR sure did their homework very well on that part and i am leaning towards these wheels in antraxite myself (not in production yet). After doing a lot of research I found the Motec Nitro and Momocorse 18"versions are both 8.2kg wheelsworldwide.co.uk/wheels/motec/nitro/bronzewww.tuninglinx.com/html/momo-wheel-momocorse-rpm.htmlBecause of this I assume the 16"and 15" momos are close to the Nero weight charts However, the lightest 17" wheel is the OZ Ultralegra (7.25kg) and sure looks neat but Personally I just cannot fall in love with this wheel: www.ozracing.nl/4f.htmlHere is a nice article about lightweight wheels: www.europeancarweb.com/tech/epcp_0708_wheel_buyers_guide/viewall.htmlHere you can retrieve a lot of info on the wheels (weight+$$$): www.tirerack.com/wheels/results.jsp?sort=Weight&autoMake=Ford&autoModel=Focus+SES+Sedan&autoYear=2010&autoModClar=&filterSize=All&filterFinish=All&filterBrand=All&filterSpecial=false&filterWeight=All&filterNew=AllThe Caterhams do have 15" wheels and a lot of people use this for RTR kits as well as reference for best best handling (I do expect their recommendation is very circuit orientated). Personally I do not like the looks of the high tires on 15" on the Tr1ke and I dig the 17". I have been searching for 16" wheels installed on Rockets, Sonics and Atomic in this forum with no luck. Yesterday I received a Pm from Bas (kitcar.nl) that 16" is recommended by RTR now but I will not draw my credit card until I have seen a pic on any RTR car and stick with 17" for the looks only. Now if you think 17" are quite big, here a link of a trike with even larger wheels and it scoots quite well on the circuit if you do a search on ytb: www.rayvolutioncars.com/btw, the 16"OZ Ultralegra is only 6.66kg which is in the same range as 15"Nero or momocorse. Still I am wondering how much the weight saving will contribute to the handling outside the circuit in 60-140kmh. if one wnats to save unsprung weight one needs to reconsider alu uprichts and smaller braking discs or single caliper as well. For the WOW factor I'd go for the 17"/low tire myself until 16" pics on RTR cars are shown. I think if you are not circuit orientated saving unsprung weight is not prio#1. Just make sure all non stock accesoires are in harmony is hard enough hehe. hope this helps, Erik

Making them is pretty easy, I found the easiest way to vut them down is either a cutting wheel on a dremel (The most useful tool ever) or I had used a small set of bolt cutters I bought yonks ago. Cut the pipe to length, then if you used a pair of cutters it will have flattened the end, make the round again by means of pliers, people wrap a bit of tape over the end of the pipe Stops you slicing your fingers, Make sure you slide the jacket onto the pipe first, then you need to push the metal flex back to reveal the plastic inner pipe, once you have approx 5mm exposed, you should be able to fit your brass olive, push this on and make sure it is on enough that the white or clear plastic pipe is butted up to the inside of the olive. Then get I think a 11mm and 10mm spanner, bring the two main metal bodies together and finger tighten first to ensure you do not cross thread them, then make super tight with the spanners, once they are are turned together till they cannot turn anymore, this job is done. I think I spent maybe £150 on front brake fittings, bought from a supplier on eBay. I used a 4 way brass union at the front, and fitted Venhill bits from a supplier on eBay and a brake switch... This is the supplier, or deal direct with Venhill: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Venhill-Braided-Brake-hose-line-90-degree-banjo-10mm-/130637288176?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item1e6a96d2f0#ht_1018wt_920www.venhill.co.uk/Bespoke_Hoses_and_CablesAlso use Venhill for your cables, I had my Choke, Throttle and Clutch cable made by them, wasn't cheap at £145 but the turnaround time was 1 day. I had thought I might have to spend £50 on each cable anyway and that would have consisted of 5 cables, Clutch, Throttle, Choke, Hand Brake and Shift cable. However I bought the Hi-Spec Hand Brake cable and did buy the Kit Car approved shifter cable like this one: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Light-Weight-Gear-Change-Cable-Kit-Car-Rally-Car-1500mm-/170312255325?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27a766c75d#ht_1076wt_920I did have a Kliktronic auto shifter, but wasn't happy with it, so reverted back to manual gear change, feels much more responsive. The wheels were initially white, I had them powder coated and then added the finishing green letter touch up, they are very light indeed, I do have a pair of 17" ford 4 x 108 PCD alloys you can have if you fancy collecting them? They are 5 spoke khan copy's like these: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kahn-5-Spoke-17-Rims-Tyres-/200713063631?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item2ebb6e4ccf#ht_500wt_1169Good for getting an idea as to what you want, and FREE :-) Can't remember what the hub size is, its the standard Ford one. I hear 15" make it handle better, but I was blown away with the look of the demo, so wanted that menacing look too.

thanks nick, im getting info overload this morning, i think my heads gonna explode. Im doing my brakes like a bike, just using braided hoses. the front calipers to one side of the m'cylinder and the rear to the other, I couldn't go through all the stress you went through finding the right fittings and thread types. although reeding your posts where quite entertaining I thought your wheels where available in black std. I cant decide weather to go with white or black,

There are only a few items you can highlight in this kit to make it personal : wheels, steering wheel, instruments, lights, gear knob and seats. To find a good match takes like forever but if you want to do it right i'd recommend to order all accessoiries at the same time. To me this seems the hardest part of the build LOL!!
I myself intend to make all brackets first to send the frame to the powder coater as fast as possible. cables etc can be fixed when the frame is at the PC.
good luck!

That's why i struggled to find good 5-spoke wheels on PCD4x108. It looks quite odd to me. for 5x108 there is a wealth of choice of good matching wheels. The Momocorse and OZ Allegerita are just spot on with the recessed stud holes and I haven't been able fo find more wheels I like myself. Hub size 63mm wheel hole 63.3mm. Yeah the 17"are cool. I am struggling for 16" as best compromise but haven't found any RTR car which has one for display on this forum for now. 16" makes sense...

It's very easy to order top notch materials but it doesn't make sense if it gets as expensive as a Sonic7. Yes, i have the funds but my brain counts 10x10 for keeping it basic and clean. That's a good reason for making a wishlist first. Oh yeah, i am reconsidering the bike switches too and i may use them if I can find a ergonomic position

Yes i agree about the wheels eric, esthetically they are so important, ill go for black wheels. My bodywork will be white as will the seats and rear hugger and the mudguards will be black.Im also going to attempt to re create the old yamaha speed blocks in red starting at the sides of the nose to were the mirrors are,up the centre of the seats and on the hugger. And finished of with red calipers.
Ive looked everywhere for wheels but i keep going back to the the black dynamics, they are light enough well made and not too expensive. I just didn't want to copy nicks,if i do i promiss not to paint my kit a lovely shade of green ;D

Hey that's cool the Yamaha racing sheme from a TZR250 right? The bue+ Yellow blocks sheme is great as well.
The Dynamics are nice as well. It's just details which makes the difference.

I actually wanted the Team Dynamic 5 spokes, model Pro Race 3, but couldn't find them cheap enough and new, I did prefer them, but now I have done mine, I really like them. I would defo consider picking up a pair if they cheap :-)

Yes like the pro race 3 but thought they were 18in + if they do 17in I could get them, less spokes to clean.
Erik has brought the dreaded msva requirements up and it got me thinking, do we need to have warning lights on the dash for anything extra thats not on the yam display, ie hazard warning lights, handbrake warning light, cheers.

Nope, the yam display has everything bar the hazard switch which you need, that comes with the steering rack. You have to have a system to turn on sidelights, dipped and main, but its pretty simple.
I only live on York, near stamford bridge, your more than welcome to come and have a look and go out for a spin on mine if that would help .

Thats good news, not needing to decide what warning lights to get. It would be a massive help if i could come and have a look at your beast and take some measurements. when ever you have time,i don't want to impose. I didn't realize you lived so near paul.
Have you sorted your cooling system yet......
thanks for info....kev
