Are you keeping your petrol filler inside the passenger section?

Haha, no, not keeping it masking-taped to the harness bar either We're going to have it facing that way to avoid the partial filling problem associated with having it at the back. We've got an aero-cap to fit flush on the rear fibreglass.

While doing the wiring the brakes came back from the powder-coaters looking splendid: and Mark rebuilt them with new seal kits and nipples. He also fitted the mesh to the bonnet: and nose cone, also preparing the holes for the Daylight Running Lights: I had a turbo boost valve fail on my Smart Brabus roadster and it's so difficult to work on I had to take the Exocet out of the garage for a week and put it in the Carcoon while I did it. At least it gave a chance to see it in the light: Lad

Most recently we've moved on to getting our seats mounted. We got these Corbeau seats on ebay for £80 for the pair - massive bargain so we decided to splash out on new matching subframes to make life easy. They bolted straight down at the back with stainless crush tubes through the chassis rails but needed brackets fab'ing for the front. They look good in place though. The rails were from a company called Rudimods - I DON'T recommend them. They were meant to be MX5 bolt in but came up short on the exocet and the passenger side had to have new mounting holes drilled as theirs fouled the sliders! Finishing the wiring next then mounting the brakes and chasing leaks! Lad

Nice build and nice colour.. just wondering what polybushes you use ? were they the ones being sold by poly-speed on ebay. If so would you recommend.. I don't really want orange bushes on my car if i can help it. Cheers Chris Hi Chris, I bought some from Poly-Marine on Ebay (they aren't on there anymore) because I wanted Yellow ones. I've never used polybushes before so not sure if they are better or worse than others but they were a lot softer when fitting. There were no fitting instructions or list of what was what. The actual fitting wasn't difficult but the fit (tolerances) of aluminium tube to polybush wasn't always good i.e. the bush wouldn't be flush with the end of the tube. I would recommend a quality set of bushes irrespective of colour. I wish I had. Sorry to hijack this thread. Colin

But then I do test electronics for car manufacturers at R&D stage as a day job! The wiring has only had 4 wires cut and soldered. The excess everyone ends up with next to the ECU is all in the black armour on the engine side of the ECU.

Still don't know the make of our bushes but I'd sit fit was "acceptable" if not, perfect. Like a lot of things in life - while shopping, saving 20% seems a good idea but once you add all the time to fit or apply something and end up not 100% happy then the 20% saving seems insignificant. Our build isn't a cheap one and to some people we may look to be being too fastidious but we want to do sprints and hill-climbs when we're done. Every job well done will add to confidence in the car we reckon while giving it ten tenths. Chris

I started by trying to find things cheaper but realised my standards sometimes demand more expensive parts. I am in the process of ordering a set of £600 coilovers from a group buy. That is 15% discount and free delivery. Despite my initial ideas I wouldn't be happy with the standard suspension I got for the car. Sometimes only quality parts will do.

Hi Gwnwar, Spring rates are 6.0Kg/mm front and 5.0Kg/mm rear. I have asked if they have had anybody put these on an Exocet and they said yes and they were ok. This is the thread I ordered them from. Here

Pincherrn.. Those are pretty stiff springs.. At that rate it is fronts 336lbs and rear at 280lbs.. That is double a stock OEM spring rate.. Exocets are coming in at around 1500lbs about a 1000lbs less then a mx5.. You may want to rethink that spring rate.. They might be good for a on track race car.. For a fun daily fair weather car I want a little more comfort to enjoy the ride..

Well boys and girls after a massive lack of activity for nearly two years we've dug the Exocet out and got it finished. I'll follow up with some pics in a day or so.
We're close to IVA/SVA whatever it's called these days and we've had it looked over, shaken down and mock MOT tested.
Firstly the good news - it weighs 660kgs with fluids :-)
....but secondly we have a brake balance problem. Rears locking up before fronts. It seems a common kit car problem but I can't find any other Exocet posts about it?!
I've got the brake bias valve out and apart and the lip seal in the rear part of the cylinder on the end of the spring seems really loose on the shaft of the valve. Has anyone else had theirs apart to tell me if this is how it should be?
Thanks.
